That's why some of us believe a modicum of discretion serves us all in the long run. Others don't see it that way, go for everything they can, and in some cases brag about it in public.

I believe the 1) is at the "fact" stage now. Not even sure about 2), doubt the following steps. Never sign up any new TYP cards since 2006 despite they all bear the Mar 2011 dates when Citi re-structured its TYP cards.
The 30 days is the boiler plate language the TYP supervisor said to me this morning.
The customer service manager got a different answer from the TYP side - she asked about the 30 days, "they" told her no, no. It is normally a couple weeks they would finish a review. Further more, she was told that the managers over TYP side do not see any notes being put on the account other than it is locked. According to the CS manager, "they" actually agreed to speed the review process and would contact me both by phone and by letter. That was all she was able to accomplish. She gave me a different toll free number for TYP and told me to call back if nothing changed by Friday or latest Monday morning.
Based on what I was just told privately, there is at least a person whose account is locked sometime in the middle of billing cycle but is told that a resolution would come at his next billing cycle. His card remains open as of now. He is a "normal" user.
My speculation is, a check request would trigger a review, regardless the value of the check. However a review does not always mean death of the account. It remains to be seen.

Truth be told, as a whole, the TYP CSRs don't strike me as Citibank's best and brightest. I think it would be odd for Citi to entrust TYP redemption agents with the task of starting an account review based on a mortgage check redemption. But we're all speculating. I think it's time for those of us in the community to share data points. I've shared mine. For the benefit of us all, please post how you've been redeeming your TYPs and if your account is open or has been closed.
I look forward to working with everyone to try to figure out what triggers Citi to try to renege on the terms that Citi itself set. It's ridiculous.

The bank, airline, hotel chain. Citi in this case. Absent prohibited discrimination (such as race, sex) or violating the T&Cs, they ca do anything they want and let anyone they choose participate or not.

And "discretion" is a relative term too. For example, ive said i decided to "hold back" from my "usual" patterns in similar deals and "only do" like $20-30k spend a month on ty. So relative to my history, am i showing some discretion or is that not good enough by somebody elses standards?
Any why is it that any time someone posts a big score in ft, people think he or she is only bragging? Are they jealous of this person?
Again, it makes little sense to me how ANYONE in here can set a line on what is considered "normal" use/spend/activity

Your reports sound just like everyone else who's been chatting with me in the past month. TY Account locked, but cards work fine. All ended up with killed TY Account and Citi canceling their cards -- despite their CC's working during the 'review process'.
My work colleague literally spent 3 weeks with his TY Account all locked up, and his Citi CC's continued to work. Rewards even posted to his TY Account during that time. In the end they closed all his credit cards and emptied out his TY Account. He is actually taking legal action against Citi as we speak, but, as of yet no response and/or new developments.
At any rate, I am hopeful that your case turns out differently. That said I would not substitute the word 'expecting' in place of 'hopeful' in the previous sentence.
To paraphrase a (in?)famous contributor here: 'Cardinal Fang is up to no good at Citi right now'.

My experience has differed, which makes me question if the mortgage check payment is the trigger. For three months I have gorged on the TYP 5 percent promotion and within the past six weeks requested three mortgage checks...

I find it rather amusing that you have people who have definitely churned in the past, and/or participated in some form of 'manufactured spending' suddenly have some idea what should be a 'proper level' there of once they're presented with an amount that differs from what they were doing.
I see constant bumping of that Amazon thread, constant bumping of the Citi 50K deal, constant bumping of MVD, Blue Bird, etc, etc ,etc. Then suddenly someone presents a number (after the deal is clearly in some cases) and everyone else is irate and calls 'abuse'.
It all strikes me as something like: 'I'm driving a sensible 85MPH in the 65 zone, but, all you folks driving 90 are just going way to fast and I hope you get busted.'

+1000!
Its all jealousy man. All of it. I guess what weve got to remember is that these people are really just angry at themselves and need to lash it out.
This is why its going to remain hard to become unified against the unruly beast
And sadly the beast may even count on that fact

For three months I have gorged on the TYP 5 percent promotion and within the past six weeks requested three mortgage checks (two of the requests were within the past two weeks) -- one small one, one for $1,500, and one for a bit more than that -- and am still open. One of the TYP redemption CSRs even remarked on how many TYPs I had and how great it was to be able to redeem TYPs for mortgage payments, then she processed it.

Yup, nearly the exact same experience here. Different $'s, but 3 checks, same comments from the CSR about what a great deal it was. Now I'm 'under review'

Sounds like we all should have gotten in and out of this gig months ago!

OK so Stoughton, MM, thehawk75 were doing 5X while Happy was idle and all are under review? I just redeemed 180K for tickets and have 50K left. I have been doing "spending" to realize my flight points. I still have 40K incoming due to sign up bonus should I be worried?

Corrections: I am NOT under review. I am completely shut down, booted, adios, goodbye from Citi. MM is still perfectly fine (I think) -- but he has the rational expectations that he 'will' be closed since he plans to take part in the 5X bonanza (and not lightly) anyway.

Waiting to see. My spend is small compared to some, but probably not small enough!
Started this month with about 20K TYP, from Forward and as then unabused 5x TYP. 30K points just posted for Premier (25K bonus + real spend). And on Saturday, I'm expecting 55K points on the TYP, of which 50K come from VR. If it stays open a few more weeks I can cash out for a ticket we actually need, but that might be too hopeful. Just reluctant to cash out rather than use at 1.33, but probably will regret not doing so.
