FAQ
1. Are these cards churnable?
As of May 1, 2014, Amex will not give a signup bonus to card applicants who have held the card in the past ~7 years, even if the applicant has never earned a previous signup bonus for it. However, it is still possible to upgrade an existing Hilton Amex to the Surpass card to earn a bonus (and reportedly to do this more than once by later downgrading & then upgrading again). The best strategy is to earn a Surpass signup bonus first, and only afterward pursue the upgrade bonus(es).

In August 2016, Citi began inserting language into applications and landing pages requiring a 24-month wait from the date of the opening or closure of any Citi Hilton card. Previously, the Citi Hilton Signature Visa and Reserve cards were on separate clocks for each applicant. Now there is a single 24-month clock reset by open/close of either type of card. For more info, see the wiki at Citi Hilton HHonors VISA [60k-75k, read Wiki to choose].

2. I have met the spending. When will my bonus post?
For Amex cards, the bonus will post a few days after meeting the spend. The points from the actual spend will post after statement is generated. For Citi products, bonus points post only at statement close.

3. What happened to the Amex drugstore category spending bonus?
Changes to Hilton Amex cards as of May 2013 are explained here:
http://boardingarea.com/blogs/viewfr...at-we-thought/

4. What is the link to upgrade from no fee card to Surpass card for 50,000 after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months?
This link redirects to this landing page. Application page.
You need to be logged into your Amex account first, then click on the link above, then click Upgrade. (This does not work for all people. It is suspected that only people that have had the no-fee card for at least one year are able to upgrade to the Surpass card.) There is generally no hard pull on your credit report for upgrading.

5. Does having one of these Hilton cards preclude me from successfully earning the signup bonus on a different one?
No. All four cards are separate products. Having (or having previously had) one of them has no effect on your bonus eligibility for the others--but note, as discussed in FAQ #1, that opening or closing any Citi Hilton card will affect your eligibility for any new Citi Hilton card bonus.

50-60k hilton points for a 3k spend -very hi price to pay!--if I did I would only do first purchase and collect the 40k
Ditto. All 3 links show Error Not Found.

I remember after the anniversary of my current no fee HHonors, I got email from AMEX on invitation to upgrade. Wasn't interested back then as my gold status will not expire until Mar 2015.

You don't have a SO or other family member you can trust to give you the $1K back from Amazon payments each month? You don't have any bills that can be paid with Evolve? You don't have any stores in your area that will sell you a $500 GC with a cc? If all of the above are true, then it's not that I'm lucky, it's that you are quite unlucky.

I've spent a lot of time studying, and done quite a bit of "work", (such as seeking out stores that will sell with a cc, etc.}, to be able to do what I'm doing. It's not always easy, and it's frequently time consuming, but the results are worth it.

When I arrive in America - I will first try on my own and if I have "any" question I will turn to you- things always change and what works today may not tomorrow -many things-- when not in states I can not even sign up for some things ---like Evolve

C.C. Are doable not GC

I didn't realize you are not currently in the states. That indeed makes things much more difficult. In that sense, I am lucky (to be here). And you are not unlucky, just not in the best place to MS.

Nobody found a link for the Amex no annual fee HHonors card? (not the Surpass) since we lost the 50k/$750 link? Was just searching around but as a cardmember, it just asks me to add people to my account.

Having lived in S America the last 2 years (almost), I can testify that things are more difficult to MS here. Being a missionary, I have hardly any expenses, and not many places accept credit cards here either; and that's if I can get the cards here to begin with!
However, if you have a family member or ex roommate that you trust really well, you can have things setup like AP, Visabuxx, etc... Those are the outlets I use and they have worked well. For myself it's my mom and old housemates who handle my mail and some deposits. Very indebted to them, so I helped my parents get to the Dominican on miles earlier this year and got hotels for my friends in Mexico! Least I could do. Setup a system you can trust if you're gonna be gone a long time, but it does work. I can say that w/confidence, and I know I'm not the only US citizen living abroad on here.

Not sure I follow you... Visabuxx, you either need a trustworthy friend to unload at the atm/deposit, or to have Citi bills to call and pay w/it. AP is AP. Check out that thread if you're unfamiliar. If you have a spouse or your parents are willing, you can add them to online savings accounts pretty easily and they never even have to touch the money to help you. Just withdraw to your joint savings account that you manage.

This thread is for discussing Hilton cards. There's an entirely different forum for MS chatter, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manuf...-spending-719/.

Update - I applied in April, completed the spend, and received the 50,000 points.

Any thoughts on whether I would receive the 50,000 points if I upgrade. Thanks in advance.

Breaking the Citi 8/65 Rule: Can it ever be reconsidered?

I made a mistake of applying a new application when my previous one did not go through due to a credit freeze on my EXP, as I had mistakenly thought that the previous app did not "count".

Is there anyway to get Citi to recon if the rejection was due to the 8/65 rule?

Had an app in Mar, Apr (the one that did not process because of my EXP freeze), and another in May (which broke the 8/65) rule.
