When do my Thank You points expire?
It depends.
It's important to understand that if you have multiple Citi cards ("sponsor accounts") generating points into a single TY account, those pooled points may have different expiration dates based upon the rules of the corresponding sponsor account. Points from some sponsor accounts never expire as long as the sponsor account is open, while others have an expiration date based on the date of earning. (For a comprehensive list of expiration rules, see the TYP T&C.)
To complicate matters further, points-earning activity from a sponsor account will often extend the validity of older points from that same sponsor account.
What happens when I cancel a credit card from which I have earned TY points?
Points previously earned from that sponsor account will expire after 60 days.
What happens when I downgrade a Prestige card or Premier card from which I've earned TY points?
A product change from one ThankYou earning card to another ThankYou earning card should keep the points from expiring.
What are the rules for sharing points from my account to another TY account?
If you share points with (that is, make an internal TY transfer to) another TY account, those points will expire 90 days after the transfer. Note that
For details, see ThankYou Point Sharing capped at 100,000 points per calendar year
When I redeem points (for travel, gift cards, etc.), which ones does Citi use up first?
Citi will use the points with the soonest expiration date, which may or may not be points from a canceled sponsor account.
How can I see my expiring points?
Follow these steps:
Why do I see a warning that points expire in 7 days after converting from Citi Preferred to Citi Rewards+?
Citi acknowledges this message can appear in error after converting from one ThankYou credit card to another type of ThankYou credit card. If your points actually expired they will adjust the point balance upon request. In at least one case, the expiration never occurred despite the message.
If you converted a ThankYou credit card to a non-ThankYou credit card, that may be a different issue, and it's possible points really will expire by the stated deadline.

The Citi Double Cash used to be my primary card for non-bonused spend. Last December, I got the Capital One Venture X card, so it has replaced the Double Cash for many purchases. I currently have around have around 38,000 points in my Double Cash Thank You points account. If I product change my DC to a Custom Cash, will these points be at risk of expiring in 90 days, or sooner, or can I just keep accumulating them in the same account?
I didn't want to do anything to risk resetting my Thank You points earning 24 month eligibility bonus, until after I successfully got approved for the current 80,000 TU points bonus on the Premier card, but I got approved and should receive my new Premier card next week. I was originally planning to product change my new Premier card to a Citi Custom in year 2, but am curious if I would have any negative consequences from product changing to a Custom Cash now and a second Custom Cash when my Premier card's year 2 annual fee is due?
Looking to the future, after I earn the 80,000 TU bonus on my Premier card, will those points be at risk of expiring when I convert it to a Custom Cash in Year 2?

Sorry, they will not be transferred, an old card will just disappear, but the total number of points won't change.

Citi Credit Card thankyou system looks more complicated than MR or Chase UR.
In Chase, I can cancel any UR Point card, just remember to move UR point to my other cards
In AMEX, as long as I have any one MR personal/ biz card under my name, all the MR pts pools keep active even closing card
However, when I read many forums or blog which introducing Thankyou point combining, looks confusing.
ex: pointguy blog:
First of all, it’s important to note that even if you have another card that earns ThankYou points, all points earned with the specific card you close will expire 60 days from the date of cancellation. So even if you combine them with those from another account that remains open. If you don’t have another Citi ThankYou account open at the time of account closure, you will forfeit your points immediately.
----> it looks like if I close 1 citi thankyou point card, Even I still have other card active, all others points will be fortfeited (keeping other active cards will give more 60 days)
My stituation is I had 2 thankyou point accounts
# 1 thankyou point account: New card open last year w/ 85k point now
# 2 thankyou point account: Long time account with DC and Premier combiningg around 90k points now
I am planning to closing #1's credit card later month, think about combing thankyou points to #2 thankyou account, then close credit card (Like Chase UR system credit card way to cancel)
However, like Pointguy or frequentMiler blog mention, combining TY account won't make it work. My TYP still will be expired
maybe just transfer #1 account 85k to airlines then closing card.
By doing so, will my #2 TYP account (90k account) still will be problem (expire) since Citi know all under my name...
hope there are some experts to instruct me w/o making mistake , thx

But those belong to two Different Thankyou accounts, will point in other TYP account with active card still be fortfeited?
I remember I close Prestige account many yr ago, before I did that I transferred all typ to airlines; Keep one premier card, at that time. My Premier card's TYP still be available till today.
I forgot if TYP account for old two account separate # or not, just remember there is no combining function many years ago.

You may wish to review this thread, everything you are concerned about is discussed. Downgrading is not the same as closing. Points are forfeited by closing, not by downgrading to another card which earns ThankYou Rewards. If you change a Premier account to a Rewards+ account the associated ThankYou Rewards account remains the same. There are additional considerations if you want to redeem by transferring to airline or hotel partners.

Just converted a Premier card to a Rewards+ card, keeping the same credit card and ThankYou account numbers. The ThankYou online portal shows all the Premier points expiring in 8 days with the reason "Closure". Can I safely ignore this warning and assume the points will not expire assuming the Rewards+ account stays open?

Curious if the statement credit option in the ThankYou portal still gives you the Premier option of 1 cent per point for maybe up to 60 days after the conversion which is then stackable with the 10% Rewards+, or whether it goes down immediately to 0.5 cpp which is the cash-out point value for Rewards+.

They only got rid of the hoops to jump through. You may now direct deposit TYP to USD into any account with the same conversion ratio. One caveat for bank accounts -- you must've used it before, so that they know the TYP redemption is not a scam.

I wish it were that simple. For another person's account with only a Rewards+ the only cash option available is now 0.5 cpp. Premier, Customer Cash etc. are 1 cpp. My question was whether the downgrade process from Premier to Rewards+ allowed a grace or stack period to get the 1 cpp with the 10% back for 60 days or so if that's your only ThankYou card.

Thank you for confirming. Just wanted to make sure I am not misreading and losing a large amount of points.
I did not check immediately but less than a week into the conversion, all cash redemption options are 0.5 cpp. Planning to wait another year to sign up for a new Citi Premier with a sign-up bonus and redeem all points with the 10% Rewards+ bonus.
