So now I seem to have an April 2013 hard deadline. Still it is much better than the Sept 2012 date before.
Thanks I'm still hoping it's free money. I did the preferred card 1st and the premier 2nd in 10/11. Wife also got the premier card after mine 11/11. Was planning on transfering anything left (after flights) to the preferred card(no annual fee ever on app which I kept) because of the clause below. What do you think? Figured I could always sign up for another premier card again.

Great News!

Your Citi ThankYouSM Preferred Card just got better

Your Citi ThankYouSM Preferred Card just got better. The ThankYou Points you've earned since becoming a Citi ThankYou cardmember will no longer expire. Any points you earned before becoming a Citi ThankYou Preferred cardmember are exempt from this change.

Oh, I thought your pile was from the old version of PPE card...

In the past even if you have the sponsored cards the TYPs still have expiration dates. Under the new branding, the points earned after the change over of the brand do not expire as long as you keep the sponsored cards.

If you click open the points it shows exactly how many points from which card with that card's last 4 digits. I dont think another Premier card would help you to keep the points from a canceled card. Citi has the program to keep track of exactly from which card the points are earned, since day one it introduced the TYP program. There are definitely reported cases people have lost their points because they have canceled their sponsored cards without knowing that they would forfeit the points earned by the canceled cards if they did not use the points within 30 days after canceling the sponsored cards.

Thanks, we've just been busy meeting spends. I still don't understand why they would penalize you for having the old points. Just CITI I guess, not very good public relations.

Reconsideration

Just wanted to drop off a data point. I applied for this card in December and was initially denied due to too many inquiries. I called in to ask for reconsideration, no dice from the CSR though. They said there was nothing they could do, but if I wanted to, I could write a letter to the "Office of the President."

So...after reading some FT threads and MP threads, I decided that it might work and I decided to write that letter. Anyways, fast forward to a month later and I get a call from a CSR from South Dakota and she says that she will put in my info to the folks that handle reconsideration. Another 5 days goes by and today I got another call from her. She says that they can close out an old AA Visa card of mine that I don't use anymore, move the credit limit to the Citi TY Premier and presto I've got a new Citi card just waiting for me to hit the min. spend.

Since these points don't transfer to another airline, I'll probably blow the $500 on the new iPad 3 (when that comes out) in preparation for an international trip to South America later this year.

Just wanted to give some props here for everyone that continues to disseminate this great information. Also, don't be hesitant about the "writing a letter to the Office of the President" spiel from the CSR. It works.

Good luck to all.

Way to go sticking with it. Don't forget you can use the points for $665 in airfare for your trip. Just go thru the TYP's Spirit incentives site. I'm still learning, but the new points seem to be a better product than Citi older product.

what is 90 days?

Here's a question for the experts.

I applied for the card in mid-Dec. They put my appln on hold but did not tell me. I called after 2 weeks to find out what was going on. Told they need more info and then asked me the same questions on the appln. I was notified that I was approved 1 wk later and finally got the actual card a week after the notification, nealry 30 days after I initially applied.

So what is the start date of the qualified purchase period (I get 80K points for $2500 spend in 90 days)? Is it still from the appln date (I applied online) or from the time of approval? It does't seem fair if they use the appln date as the start date since they took so long w/the approval and sending the card, basically running the clock for the 1st 30 days w/o me having any access to the card.

I couldn't see the Mastercard option on the first post, so I called the number on the application page to apply over the phone. Application needed more time for review. The guy who took my application gave me a phone number to their account specialists and asked me to give them a call. I called, but the account specialist couldn't do anything. Both are based in the Philippines.
He then transferred me to the next level in Maryland.

This time, the girl was able to approve my application over the phone after 3 minutes reviewing the application. The weird thing was she said I applied for the Visa card. When I was speaking to the application department, I made sure he picked the Mastercard option. I must have confirmed with him at least 3-4 times. One time, right before he submitted the application.

It's so frustrating to deal with Citi. They couldn't do anything about it. Told me to reapply again.

Had similar thing happen with Chase for the Sapphire card. They asked the same questions on the App. The time started on the day I applied for it. Which like you was over 2 weeks earlier. Cancelled the Chase card and because it was less than 30 days told them to take off the credit inquiry.

That was what I was afraid of. So in essence, they are only giving me 2 months to make the spend bonus. I guess the hope I won't make it and they have a new customer w/o giving out the bonus pts. Very tricky and not very PR smart!

Looks like this is a card I WON'T be keeping because of the tricks.

You can confirm with them the start date when you activate the card. That's why I got so PO with Chase was, there attitude was oh you should have checked earlier. That was the first time I've never gotten instant approval. Good luck, my experiences with Citi have been better.

The question whether the bonus points count as purchase points is a huge one that still needs someone to test! It would turn this offer into a 100k offer for anyone that doesn't mind putting 50k miles of flights on the card.

If you figure that 50k miles of y flights is like $3 to $5k in spend, another 50k points would be a pretty good haul.

Hello,

Last year I got the two Citi AA cards for 75k miles each. Do I have to wait a certain amount of time before applying for this one? I recall talk of two per 18 months, but I don't know if that only applies to AA cards.

Thanks!

This is a Citi Premier card so you would have had to only wait 30-60 days. So go get it and enjoy.
