FAQ

1. Are these cards churnable?
Yes, they are. BUT you’ll have to wait anywhere from 12 to 26 months before applying again. Approvals have happened at the 13 month mark and denials at 24.
There is no set 18 month rule, but always err on the side of caution when churning.
Also- it’s from DATE OF APPROVAL and not from date of cancellation.

2.What are the most current rules in applying for these cards?
#ONLY ONE APPLICATION in a day (make that 30 hours to be safe)
#No more than 2 apps in 65 (approximately) days.
Example:
Day 1 40K personal platinum
Day 2 or later 25-30K personal gold
65+ days later 40K business

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible.

3. How long does it take for the Admiral passes to arrive?
For the better part, it takes about 3 months. This is not a set number, and some have received theirs sooner. It's been deduced that the passes are handled by a 3rd party that mails them in batches. Please don’t call Citi for the passes, because you’ll mostly find a CSR who doesn't know better and will give you wrong information.

4. Can I apply for a business card if I don’t have a business?
Technically, you can. But you may be asked for a 4506-T form, or to provide proof of business or/and a copy of a bill with your business name on it. If you don't already have a credit history for the business name you plan to use (meaning this is your first rodeo) then it is recommended you use your name as the business name with no income and 0 as years in business.

5. How do I get the statement credit?
First, you have to make sure if the offer you signed up for gave you A $150 credit or UP TO A $150 statement credit. For the 1st, any AA coded purchase ($50 AA GC seems to be the simplest option here) will/should trigger it. For the 2nd, you’ll have to spend $150 to get the $150 credit.
For more information on what will work and what won’t, please see here (thanks sdsearch) and here (thanks dogbyte)

6. Does the $150 account credit (for AA purchases using the VISA or AMEX) count against the spending required to receive the initial mileage bonus?
No. It does not. (Put differently: any account credit you receive has no impact on your spending total for purposes of earning the "X thousand miles for $Y spent in the first Z months" bonus.)

7. Can I buy Visa gift cards to meet my minimum spend?
There’s a very good chance that it’ll be coded as a cash advance.
It’s recommended to call citi and have them set your Cash Advance limit to zero. (thanks KennyBSAT)

8. Do I get 10% back when redeeming miles for awards?
It depends. First, the rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply if you hold only the Citi Gold World MasterCard.

Also, the maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate; the restriction applies per AAdvantage account.

9. At what locations are my one day Club passes valid?
All valid locations are listed here.

One incident doesn't make it a rule. Citi has been fluid lately with their rules. I mentioned earlier that me and some friends recently applied for a biz and personal on the same day without any problems.

Another data point. Applied for AA business followed by ThankYou Preferred on 3/27. Instantly approved for AA business and declined for TY preferred as duplicate application.

Called twice for reconsideration. Both agents said they can't do anything since it was declined as duplicate application. I even suggested to cancel another card or move CL from other card. Both said I have to wait 60 days and apply again. Will call again on Monday as last try.

App'd for 30K AAdvantage VISA Offer, Asked and Got 50K!

Hello All,
Happy Friday! I've been a longtime reader of Flyertalk (man, have I learned a lot but I'm still learning a ton!) and decided it might help others to share my experience today with Citibank. I apped for the Citi AAdvantage Visa back in February with the 30K miles offer after spending $1,500 in 3 months. Of course, I learned afterwards that the 50K offers were still working for many. I decided to shoot a message to Citi through the secure messaging center this morning for the heck of it. Essentially, I told them that after getting the 30K offer I learned that there was a 50K offer and had I realized that I would have applied for it instead. Their response is below:

Thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, we are unable to change the promotional offer on your account.

However, as a courtesy we have credited your account the additional 20,000 miles.

You will receive the 30,000 bonus miles when you have met the spending requirement.

We appreciate your business and value you as our customer.

A little background: I've had one Citi card since 2003 with a pretty high CL ($28.5K) and never paid late with them. I ran quite a bit through it a few years ago but not much in the past year as I've been meeting minimum spend to get bonuses on other cards recently. The AAdvantage Visa was my second card. Since opening the account at the end of February I've ran around $3,500 through the card. I'd hope these factors perhaps played into their decision to simply credit me an additional 20,000 miles. Either way, I was ecstatic and couldn't have thought of a better gift on a Friday! It's certainly a YMMV situation but if you've recently gotten the Aadvantage Visa Signature card and didn't do the 50K offer it might not hurt to shoot them a message or call them up.

I'll keep my eyes peeled to see when the miles post. Hopefully they hit at the same time as the other 30K (should be soon as I've exceeded the minimum spend).

I dunno, it sort of worked for me. Business card approved about 3/16/13, personal amex (from link #1) denied around 3/21/13, personal visa (from link #2) approved about 3/24.

Datapoint - I applied for #2 with instant approval. My last approval for this same card was 18 months ago. Waiting to verify the promotion when it arrives.

Three Cards in 79 Days

My current app was on March 22 at around 1:00am CDT from the first business link under #1 in the first post so we know it still works and things are looking quite promising even though I was quickly denied in step #3 of the online application process. After asking for a supervisor at 888-201-4523, I explained the need to separate expenses on the recon call. She put me on hold and came back asking questions about my business location. The only thing she requested from me was a bank statement addressed to my PO Box or a utility bill in my business' name and physical address. I emailed it yesterday and my fingers are crossed.

The data point here is the ability to successfully reapply after 65 days using the business link from the first post. @ddallas you were curious. Now we know. I haven't had the balls to try the 30K Gold MC, but I will as soon as this business card is approved.
I was approved today for the Citi AAdvantage Business card I referred to above. Two successful Citi apps in January and a third Citi app submitted after only 72 days. It took seven additional days to get the third app/business card approved. I used the first business card link in the first post.

I'd love to try the 30K Gold MC but I was also just approved for the Chase Southwest Premier 50K Business and 50K Personal cards, plus the Barclays USAir 35K card (all four applied for on March 22), plus the Chase Hyatt card on March 16 (with two free nights at any Hyatt in the world and the $100 statement credit upon 1st purchase). One more may be enough for Barclays to cancel my account once they pull a fresh credit report under their terms & conditions (I keep reading that this is a regular occurrence and it is in their T&C). I'll wait a month or go for it the moment Barclays cancels me so I can let everyone here know that four citi cards in X days is or is not possible, though I feel certain that it's possible under the two apps in 60 days rule. Thanks to everyone who helped get me to this point.

Thanks to everyone who helped get me to this point. With 50K AAdvantage miles from their shopping, dining and travel networks plus the 100K miles I earned with the double browser trick in January, I've already booked two round trip first class tickets to Hawaii for only $20 which I'm pretty sure will get credited back since they were billed by AA. Zero dollars out of pocket for close to $6000 worth of tickets! WOW! Thank you Flyertalk and everyone who helped!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

I think he just confused it with the US Air card, which is 35k miles.

Congrats, always nice to hear a story of successful miles usage.
You must be buying a lot of stuff to get 50k from their shopping portal.

Applied from link in group 2. 50K miles after $2500 spend in 4 mo personal
Personal VISA, instantly approved. Thanks a lot to FT and great community.

I read last 20 pages in last week but I am still not clear if I can apply business card also within few days (before 60 days). I believe business links from group 1 are still alive. Please confirm someone who recently applied and approved.

Can I use this card to pay taxes on paytaxusa.com?

Cong! I also applied AA 30K in Febrary, but this is my second cc after BOA Cash Reward, so I don't think Citi will give miles to me as they gave you...
