Thanks. But there is not ANY indication when booking at choicehotels.com that this is the case. This is certainly not common knowledge. I did a dummy booking this morning and there is clear indication that I earn points, etc., and not through some subsidiary program. I specifically chose this 5 night property to maintain my status match to Marriott. Had I known this was an issue, I definitely would have considered other choices.

Today's front desk person seems to think that I can have the stay manually added to my account when I return home, but you don't seem to think so, and the FT rep has not gotten back to me yet on that question.

If the front desk person is at a Nordic Choice hotel, then I suspect they are rather clueless or confusing the NCC program with the Choice program if they are speaking about anything beside the (non-Nordic) Choice program giving a one-time, manual goodwill gesture of points and/or something toward Choice status promotion/retention.

I do think that it’s messed up that Choice’s owned distribution channels sell hotel nights at a group of hotels where stays don’t count toward Choice program credit and promotions and thus customers are left to deal with the fine print or hope for one-off goodwill gestures.

Nordic Choice Hotels is renaming the company as Strawberry, and it is going effective as of May 22 this year. What goes on with the Strawberry hotels’ program — particularly with the ability to redeem those Nordic Choice Club/Strawberry points for Choice hotels in France/Germany/Italy/Turkey/Ireland/the UK/the Czech Republic and the ability to earn NCC/Strawberry points from US Choice hotel stays could well be indicative of what will go on for the ability to use US Choice points for the Scandinavian Clarion/Comfort/Quality/Ascend Collection hotels.

I will be trying to pay close attention to see if they continue to allow for US/Canada Choice hotel stays to be manually credited to the Nordic Choice Club by emailing in the receipts from US/Canada Choice hotel stays.

And hopefully this does not affect any current reservations. I used US Choice points to book two nights at the CPH airport Clarion in mid-June. The booking is still confirmed in my US Choice account. Our stays over the years at the CPH airport Choice hotels the night before a flight have been perfect.

I am hoping it remains as business as usual for US Choice point reservations for these Scandinavian hotels, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nordic Choice — soon to be Strawberry — want a higher reimbursement amount for award nights using US Choice points than they are currently getting and may restructure things in a way that I won’t like. But since it doesn’t look like any reflagging or properties away from Clarion/Comfort/Quality/Ascend is underway in the region this quarter at least, you should be fine for your June stay too.

I suspect this Strawberry thing won’t turn out good for me. It will probably turn out awful for me. The financial situation for Nordic Choice Hotels, their footprint growth desires, the refinancing terms of the Scandinavian hotels, and Choice being Choice come together to likely kill off the golden goose for me when it comes to Choice Privileges points being redeemed (for these properties).

The new Nordic Choice Hotels app was pushed out under the name Strawberry. The hotels remain with the Choice brand names still. What I haven’t seen work since the app name change yesterday is this with the app: the ability to book/see Nordic Choice Club point prices for Choice hotels in the UK, France, the Czech Republic and other such non-Nordic, Choice hotels. I am hoping that is a glitch, but I’m not sure it is.

Yeah, the new app Strawberry was also pushed on my phone. The "use points" button in the "bonus points" section does not work. However, their new website www.strawberryhotels.com will take you a bit further. Seems that it supports only redemptions in Scandinavia and the known shop vouchers. I believe the possibility to redeem in other European hotels is gone.

At least, the redemption of Choice points for NCH/Strawberry still worked yesterday night. Redeemed all my points for hopefully not the last trip on points through Scandinavia.

Strawberry allows earning Nordic Choice/Strawberry points for “Strawberry Hotels outside the Nordics and Baltics”. 750 bonus points per night when emailing such hotel receipts to them. But that used to say Choice hotels, and it worked with US Choice hotel stay folios/receipts. There are no Strawberry hotels in the US, so I’m curious to see if this is just sloppy writing from the company, a prequel of things to come, no more points earning from US Choice hotel stay folios emailed to Nordic Choice/Strawberry, or some combination of this.

Redeeming Choice US points for award nights at these Nordic properties seems to continue to work just fine at least for now. I’ll soon make a May 22nd booking using US Choice points for May 22nd check-in at a Nordic Choice hotel and see how it goes. I’m not expecting any hiccups, but I am curious to see how things are.

Where did you find this quote? I looked up the T&C's and it is still written the old way. I feel they added your quotes somewhere else and it is just a mistake.

Good to hear, but I can't get any Nordic Choice Hotels to load rooms for points this morning through Choice Hotels website. Reward rates show, then when I click on 'View Rooms' the screen loading 'View Available Rooms' keeps spinning or returns a message of "You have exceeded room occupancy" when I have only 1 guest.

Hopefully a temperorary software glitch.
