Last year it was 10,000. And this year 2500? Wow, Choice, that makes this a very easy pass especially considering my last stay at a Choice hotel (one I've stayed at multiple times before) was so dreadful I don't think I will ever stay there again.

Looks like 2x points for stays through 28 Feb - if I hadn't already jumped ship for Hyatt this winter, I'd be pretty disappointed.

I'm with you. Because of Covid, I don't trust Choice and have gone strictly to Hilton. But compared to other chains, this is a lame promotion in a tough time for hotels.

Same here, from Diamond to Member and I'm still not traveling history is full of cancelled reservations. Points are good until May 2022 so I don't know what I will do or what program I will choose when I start traveling again. Choice brands were the closest where I had to travel to and I I used them because of the basically the promotions.

I think they've mostly lost me, though maybe they won't mind since I stayed exclusively on promos and redemptions. I've been getting spoiled, getting to book at any Hyatt without fear of ending up at a truly subpar property.

Stunningly, a few bloggers made a point of saying that this promo was a nice change up from the typical "stay twice, get 8K" promo. Every so often, you need a reminder of which ones are the idiots.

A multiplier on points (once 3x, but in recent years only 2x) has regularly been the winter promo at Choice.

Lwildernova, I can see how non-idiots can find 2x a "nice change-up" from the boost to 8K!
A person who has one single stay costing $400 earns 8000 points under 2x vs. 4000 under 8K without a 2nd stay (mattress run.) However, if their 2nd stay costs $70, it becomes 4700 + 5000 =9700.
A guest with two $250 stays earns 2x 5000 now vs. 5000 +5000 bonus under the boost promo, so 10K either way. If the combined total of both stays is OVER $500, then 2x is better!
The boost promo is much better only for those with an even number of cheap one- or two-nighters.

If you're spending $250-400 on Choice properties, you're going to places where the other chains are charging $500 and above--and I generally don't go to those places. Or you value Choice points way more than I do.

The stay 2 times is a per stay promo, not a per night promo. If someone's staying somewhere for 5 nights, an $80/night room gets you up to $400 total. If you're not wanting to hotel hop, a 2x bonus is quite a bit more useful if you don't have any stays (or at least any cheap stays) planned.

Not disputing that, but given Choice stay patterns for many--a night or two here or there since it's rarely a vacation destination where you might stay for more nights but rather a business stay in a small town without other properties or a cheap alternative in an area with higher-priced properties--I'm still not convinced that spending five nights in a Choice property at $80 per night for 8K points is better than 2 nights at $80 (or less at many properties, especially those in off-season locations such as the Outer Banks where I regularly go and regularly find properties for less than $55) is a better deal. Since status is nearly irrelevant at Choice properties, increasing the number of nights spent at Choice properties is not a profitable play. I reach Diamond not because I'm aiming for a specific number of nights each year but because my travel habits put me in Choice properties that many times per year.

Of course, I'm happy for those who have travel patterns different from mine who find some value in this promo. I've registered for it since I'm not leaving points on the table, but I'm not redirecting longer stays to Choice because of this promotion.

I'm a bit surprised that Choice hasn't come out with any longer spring promotion - just the late March weekend stay promo. Wyndham has already gotten a fair amount of bookings from me, and I don't see a reason to change unless Choice comes out with a useful points promo.

I received this email two days ago:

Registration required at www.choicehotels.com/promo/choice-privileges/spring-elite-promo before check-out. The promotion is only available to members of the Choice Privileges® Rewards Program who register for this promotion, and then make a qualifying stay at participating hotels (WoodSpring Suites® hotels and Ascend Hotel Collection® all-inclusive resorts and casinos, among others, are not participating). Members must stay between March 29 and May 23, 2021 to qualify for the promotion. Bonus points will be awarded as follows:
  • Stay 3 times, earn 8,000 points
  • Stay 5 times, earn 15,000 points
  • Stay 8 times, earn 25,000 points
  • Stay 1 time at a Cambria hotel, earn 2,000 points
A “stay” is any number of consecutive nights at one hotel regardless of check-ins or check-outs. A “qualifying stay” is a stay that is during this promotion at a participating hotel, booked through a qualifying channel (see Qualifying Channel, below) that is eligible to earn Choice Privileges points. Most stays are eligible to earn Choice Privileges points EXCEPT: rooms booked at rates below $40 USD per night, certain hotel-initiated promotions, reward night stays, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, rooms booked through a travel agent or third-party online retailer including online travel agencies, wholesale packages, group tours, and stays booked using the employee discount or the friends and family discount. Available to U.S. residents only.

Bonus points are in addition to the base points earned from a qualifying stay(s). The maximum number of bonus points awarded to an individual member will not exceed 41,000 points during the promotional period. Offer is not applicable to groups and cannot be combined with any other discounts, special offers or promotions, except for certain Choice initiated rate discounts.

I am shooting for the 8 stays. Since the 25,000 are bonus points, if you add them to the regular and elite bonus points from the stays, it will be close to 32 K pts, basically identical to the stay twice get 8K points promotions that have been so common.

Thanks - I didn't even see that in my email box. Nice to see that it's on top of normal earnings. I have 3 stays currently with Wyndham that would earn 9,500 bonus points with them - a true 8,000 point bonus might be enough to switch, though I don't know if I can finesse enough stays out to get the higher bonuses (without a vehicle for the longer stay hotel hopping is quite annoying.)
