Nordic Choice Hotels Bans Pay-TV Pornography

The company claims this is being done supposedly to help fights against human sex trafficking and fight against prostitution in general.

Given free Internet at all the Nordic Choice properties and given a lack of sexual content filtering of Internet traffic, it is likely that: (a) Internet porn had eaten into the revenues of the hotel's pay-per-view porn revenue in a big way already; and (b) this move is more publicity stunt than anything else (even as hotel pay TV porn is biting the dust).

Perhaps this move may help the hotels increase pay-TV revenue, but that is not how they are positioning this banning of pay-TV porn.

It is hard to see how hotels make any money from in-room movies of any kind, unless people's kids are accessing them without permission. Me, if what's on TV is not satisfactory, I fire up my laptop and login to Netflix. Or a multiplayer shooter game.

And you've stayed at a Nordic Choice hotel how many times? At many of those, I have to keep getting scratch cards for the internet, and they don't necessarily last all that long. (They usually don't mind giving me more, but I have to re-log-in each time one expires. So the issue is not cost, the issue is how long you can keep one internet session active.) So watching a movie on Netflix from a Nordic Choice hotel, I don't know how easy that is.

And, btw, does a US Netflix account work if you're connecting through a Scandinavian ISP? (Nordic Choice hotels are only found in and near Scandinavia.)

US based VPN fixes the latter problem.

The majority of Nordic Choice hotels use scratch-card size Internet passes, but (at least not for some years now) they don't require any scratching since the user login and password are in plain sight on those pieces of paper. They mostly last for 24 hours although some have shorter and longer duration chits to hand out too beside the 24 hour ones. Re-logging in may be necessary even as the login and password remain unexpired.

I have to use a VPN to watch US programming via things like Hulu and Netflix. The local equivalents work. As long as data traffic is relatively active, being logged out is not a problem for me on most of my Nordic Choice hotel stays .... and I have lots of them.

By the way, a huge proportion of local TV channels have US English-language programming, much of which is available on the local TV channel websites to watch on demand. In the region, that is what I do more than Hulu/Netflix/Slingbox/etc.
