...and in particular for a Diamond?
I ask "...for a Diamond?" especially for the current 8,000 point promotion because it says Diamonds can book through any channel.
I know it's a stupid question, but I haven't pushed the envelope in this direction. Thank you.

For non-elites or low-elites, the current 8.000 points promotion works only through Choice's website or Choice's 1-800 number. High-enough elites can expand that to booking directly with the hotel or using a corporate travel agent. But that doesn't mean they can book on booking.com!
Ie, you can only earn 8000 points when you can earn points to being with, and you don't earn points to begin with at booking.com.
Furthermore, you only earn points on qualifying rates. The special rates at third-party sites are generally not "qualifying".

And perhaps some airline booking sites (with airlines that are their partners)? (I'm not sure on this for Choice specifically, but I seem to remember it as an exception to "no third-party" at some hotel program or other.)
(And, btw, please note that I just edited my previous post to add one other way of booking that works for the promo for high elites but not others: walk-up!)
