Shanghai Dinner...
Headed to Shanghai next week and haven't been in about a year and a half. What's the latest "can't miss" dining spot?
Thanks! |
The answer to this somehow depends on which places you have been before.
One place that is getting a lot of attention is 'Sushi Oyama' in DongHu Lu. SmartShanghai article It is very small (14 seats) and the menu changes nightly, fresh and very good Japanese Food in a nice atmosphere. |

Went to Kagen Tepanyaki restaurant, the new restaurant from the owners of Haiku. Much better in terms of quality than all the others all you can eat places. For rmb228 ....great steaks and lambchops! Check out www.shanghaiexpat.com forum Have Fun!!! |
I wasn't terribly impressed with the value at Y's table, but I have only eaten there once.

or down in the SWFC: Y's Table .....upclass foodcourt with great italian, chinese and jap restaurants. In the weekend they do nice lunches: all you can eat.
An old favorite of mine that never disappoints in the Lujiazui area is Din Tai Fung on the 3rd floor at the back of Superbrand Mall. Never get sick of those xiaolongbaos. I go there at least once a week. They have several locations around town. Another one i frequent, this time in Puxi, is Guyi. Some may call it overrated, but i still love the lamb shanks, mapotofu, and eggplant they serve. |
I work close to SWFC and would second Sniles suggestions if you are around Pudong. Y's table is not amazing value but it is good, the only thing lacking being a view, due to the basement location.
The Park Hyatt has a restaurant, 100 Century Avenue, with great views but (based on one visit on a Friday night) patchy service and mind-blowingly high prices. One of my favourite place in the french Concession, Lost Heaven, is due to open a branch on the Bund soon, and that will I guess get a fair bit of attention. The Shanghai branch of M1nt has opened to massive hype - not been yet myself but is definitely an "in" place to go right now. Again, likely to be pretty pricey, but that goes with the territory. http://www.m1nt.com.cn/shanghai.html |
Some of the Korean restaurants in the Hongqiao area are also of really high quality. The ones in central Shanghai not really enjoyable.
For Chinese food I prefer a daytrip out to Suzhou, 40 minutes by train, and the scenic views of Jinji lake from LiGongDi restaurants. Good Jiangsu, Cantonese and Sichuan style places there. |
