Can I mention another issue about flying in China in (late) January, besides the weather in the north of the country.
January 26, 2009 is the start of Chinese New Year, the one time of year when all 1.3 billion Chinese seem to travel somewhere. I would finish the trip by Jan. 20 or expect crowds like you have never seen and long delays at all airports and train stations. (Mind you, if you like crowds and noise, CNY is a great expereience.) After February 2 everything is back to normal. Also try Lijiang in the south; one of my favourite parts of China or, if you want cold, the Harbin Ice Festival. |

I'm just gonna say, I've seen photos of Hiroshima back in middle school, and that one video from the 60's, and from this expert recearch, I have concluded, nuclear war=bad.
Let's not have one here. |

Relax. Many people around here appreciate your cynical comments; they often inject life into, otherwise, lackluster topics.
