Qingdao- local and expats help needed

:D although Qingdao boasts of many great Chinese restaurants, I have to confess I'm getting restless. I really need some help in finding something different to eat.

maybe a good sandwich? like a club sandwich ? :(
or
a good bowl of CEREAL - with regular milk! =\ not the boxed stuff.

I need a fix!

was I crazy did I imagine a subway sandwich shop in Qingdao?

please please expats ...locals LIST your favorite restaurants in Qingdao lol even the Chinese food ones ! I need some good eats! :D:D

Although I have never been to Qingdao, I am certain there are a number of good places to eat and I have heard there is a good expat community there. As for Chinese places... Well most of what I learned in Beijing was through friends, trial and error and That's Beijing.

This might be helpful for a start..

I am sure you buy cereal at Carrefour or other shops like that, though since its imported, it will not be cheap.

The best ressource for expats in Qingdao is Ian Burn's Redstar Magazine.

The dining section lists a few sandwich shops, check here.

Your best bet to find cereals is Jusco, Walmart, K-Mart or Carrefour. Redstar has shopping listings as well.

If you need more info on Qingdao, don't hesitate to ask. I spent too much time there and explored every corner of the city in 2006.

I regularly travel to Shandong including Qinqdao to meet our agents and property developers there. They always host over local food which I find excellent for anyone who is into fish and seafood.

I think to have listed one of the local seafood temples in the fish/seafood thread on Diningbuzz.

Otherwise the best alternative might be Korean restaurants as they are very authentic and good quality in this area. Bibimbab and the Korean cold noodles are pretty easy on taste and stomach if that is what the OP is looking for.

Try some silk worm larva and dog throat. Sounds strange but very delicious.

IIRC, there's a Shangri-La (maybe Traders) in QD that lives up to the brand's standard.

There is a Shangri-La as well as a Crowne Plaza. Apparently there is also an InterContinental under construction.
