(Because I just bought an M fare for a flight tomorrow (20% discount), I just noticed that M is conspicuously lacking from UA's list, even though it is more expensive than the L fare I bought on the return flight.

Do you think this is a typographical oversight, or should I just credit that flight to CA?

My bad! Typo corrected in original post. CA booking classes YBMHK earn 100% mileage if accrued in UA Mileage Plus program.

Acrual Premiums in Mileage Plus for CA & FM

OK so I had a few extra minutes of time on my hands and was thinking about the relative accrual premiums in Mileage Plus for CA & FM. Basically I looked at the relative value of miles accrued versus CNY paid where earning 100% mileage for a full Y fare would be 1.00 (or 100%).

Airline = CA

Class......Y....B....M....H....K....L....Q....G... .U....Z....E..
Mileage...100%.100%.100%.100%.100%..50%..50%..50%. .50%...0%...0%
Fare......100%..90%..85%..80%..75%..70%..60%..50%. .40%..30%..20%
Value.....1.00.1.11.1.18.1.25.1.33.0.71.0.83.1.00. 1.25.0.00.0.00

Airline = FM

Class......Y....B....L....M....T....E....H....V... .W....P....Z..
Mileage...100%..70%..70%..70%..70%..70%..70%...0%. ..0%...0%...0%
Fare......100%..90%..80%..75%..70%..65%..60%..50%. .40%..30%..20%
Value.....1.00.0.78.0.88.0.93.1.00.1.08.1.17.0.00. 0.00.0.00.0.00

Looks like CA is overall a better FF value! YMMV

(Sorry for all the extra periods but I couldn't get the fixed width fonts to work 'cause the editor insists on removing repeated spacing).

I didn't need to crunch any numbers to arrive at that conclusion; FM = 100% on very few fare buckets, CA goes further down the ladder. But, with respect to my trip this week PEK-XIY, the difference between the cheap fares (unfortunately for my boss, they're aren't any) and the expensive ones is a mere 80 miles, thanks to the 500 mile minimum.

Now that CA & FM allow passengers to freely use their tickets on each others flights -- a concession to the frequent delays and multiple flights leading to almost shuttle service on the route, wonder if it's possible to buy H on FM for 60% and fly standby on CA and get 100% mileage?

Sound like a good excuse to take a trip to go for Beijing noodles this weekend.

last weeks FM PVG-HRB-PVG flight gave me 1046mi in L and 523 in V. Seems like L is 100%. The 50% for V would match with your table

I am surprised how fast the miles show up on my account.

Looks like some great mileage run opportunities (if someone isn't flying enough here )

Very strange as FM normally allows 100% for Y, 70% for a few other classes and 0% for many others. But CA doesn't fly PVG/HRB.

How do the actual flights display in your Mileage Summary on United.com?

I am registered with Lufthansa. Here the miles basically show up like this:

Shanghai-Harbin FM9175/FM9175 Economy Class, L +1 046

Harbin-Shanghai FM9174/FM9174 Economy Class, V +523

Well that explains it! LH Miles & More has a different mileage accrual schedule. Here's how various economy class booking codes on Shanghai Airlines accrue mileage in LH Miles & More versus UA Mileage Plus:

Booking
Class........ Y....B....U....L....M....T....E....H....S....Q.... V....W....P....Z

MM...Miles...150..100..100..100..100...50...50...5 0...50...50...50....?....?....?
.....Min.....750..500..500..500..500..500..500..50 0..500..500..500....?....?....?

UA...Miles...100...70...70...70...70...70...70...7 0...70....?....?....?....?....?
.....Min.....500..500..500..500..500..500..500..50 0..500....?....?....?....?....?

Note: The format is "Percent Mileage Acrued/Minimum Mileage Accrued" and the question marks means the accrual for that booking class is not specified on the carrier's website (but is probably zero).

For those of us stuck on SQ KF.. I had to dig up some info on China domestic flight accruals for Krisflyer here

In Jet Yi's excellent format:

SINGAPORE AIRLINES KRISFLYER

Airline = CA
Class......Y.......B.......M......H.......K....... .L.......Q.......G.....U......Z......E..
Mileage...100%.100%.100%.100%.100%..100%..100%..0% ...0%...0%....0%
Fare.......100%.90%...85%..80%...75%....70%...60%. ...50%.40%.30%..20%
Value......1.00..1.11...1.18..1.25...1.33....1.43. ..1.66....0.....0......0......0.

Airline = FM
Class......Y........B........L........M.......S... ....T........U......
Mileage...100%..100%...100%..100%..100%..100%..100 %
Fare.......100%...90%....80%....75%.....?.......70 %....?......
Value......1.00....1.11....1.18....1.25.....?..... ..1.43....?......

All other classes on FM not accruable
