Review: Capone's (Beijing)
I'm surprised at myself for not having commented on Capone's as of yet because it's become a favorite "wining and dining" spot within our company. Furthermore, it's locating in "The Place", which is a pretty snazzy rip-off of Fremont St. in Vegas, which is worth seeing in its own right.
Part of the reason I've yet to post a review is because the food isn't all that stellar (in spite of the sky high prices). While I like sea bass and the alumunim foil is cool, those guys have yet to master the taste concept. Other dishes -- like the squid ink raviolli-- are equally inspirational and equally ho-hum. That said, the singer makes the meal and the night. Although (shamefully), I can't recall his name off the top of my head, he's around 70 and has played with pretty much every Motown artist you can think of; plus he's written many famous songs, including "ABC" and "I'll be there." So, for him alone, you can justify a stop, even if you've already consumed your dinner at an alternate location. And, the food is, by no means, terrible. Just shy away from the adventurous stuff and you'll be fine, even if you overpay. Your money is being spent on: 1) the setting; and 2) the singer. It all works out. |
