Clueless in Shanghai
 

Can someone tell me how long it would take to get from the FS Shanghai to Jiang Wan Stadium (346 Guohe Road, Yangpu district)? I will be hiring a driver to take us. If that's too far, what would be the best luxury hotel nearest to the stadium?

Which airline would you recommend for a flight from PEK to PVG and back again? I would prefer a ST partner, if possible. How long of a connection should I book?

We will be there May 1 - 7 for the Asian X Games, and I understand that this is their Labor Day. Will this affect traffic, what's open or closed, etc?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i suggest you check out the regal east asia or the huating and rely on taxis (or even your legs) to get you to and from the action.

there are a bazillion threads on this topic. cz is the closest thing china has to a sky team partner (works well with nw). if you're concerned about the connection, just wait till you arrive to buy your ticket. hongqiao airport would better suit your needs by the way.

These hotels look like they are in the Xuhui district, which seems (according to my map) just about the furthest away from where we need to be in the Yangpu district. I believe you are thinking of the wrong stadium, but thanks anyway.

oops, my bad. i just asked our ayi about the yangpu stadium and she spread her arms out far and wide in order to describe its relation to our present location. i will check a map later, but i guess i agree with your idea of picking a hotel based on quality rather than location. i would still use taxis, however.

The Four Seasons is not that bad, if you have a car. Take the north-south viaduct all the way to the mid-ring road (north), turn onto mid-ring road east bound and turn off at Wujiaochang. Without traffic it should take about 20 mins, highway all the way through. North-south viaduct always has traffic, the mid-ring never.

Would definitely recommend staying in the city center. As mentioned, it's not too bad of a drive out to Yangpu, and during the May Holiday week, traffic should be relatively light anyways. Some restaurants and sights will be closed, particularly on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of that week, but the city doesn't shut down to the extent that European cities do on their major holidays. Speaking of the Four Seasons, we're fans of their Japanese restaurant (all you can eat sushi ~US$20-30) and their weekend dim sum.
