TMK, the 748 rotations are pretty much set in stone. They shift them around seasonally, but once they're in place, they fly their routes as scheduled. Letting them get out of position causes ripple effects (e.g. 320s/737s can't handle palletized cargo and 777s/330s have other missions).

I am sure this is not the case for domestic flights. The 747s basically sit on the ground when they are swapped out since they are ordered for the vip flights

The best way is to book the last flight of the day, and wait for that flight to be cancelled. Afterwards, wait til 6 hours before a 747 flight and rebook yourself on it. Weird way but surely it works.
