Sep '23: The Visa Form Is Simplified!

"The new version of the forms, which is available starting from Wednesday, requires fewer fields from applicants, thus shortening the time needed to fill in the forms."

I didn't think the visa application process was particularly difficult........

Perhaps my prior experiences with other countries' bureaucracies have tainted my expectations though.

When did you apply? A new detailed and intrusive application form was introduced a few months ago. Thats what is being "simplified."

In addition to the needling questions, the interview requirement is a rather significant hurdle for many people who don't live near PRC consulates.

Applied end of last month.

Filled out form on weekend, picked appointment a couple days later at the visa centre. Visa issued the day after, though I wanted the 4 business days stated to pick it up.

Travelling to consulat or visa centre is part of the game. Years ago when I applied for a visa to Germany, I had to drive a few hundred km, stay overnight on my dime, do interview, and drive home.

And when I applied for a visa to l'Algrie, they want a letter proving you have health insurance coverage, your pay slips, employment contract......

With respect to China visas, mail service was VERY popular until it was killed.

Are they still doing their thing? It's been ages since anyone on FT mentioned the old staples and they no longer seem to show up as sponsored search results (for "China visa") on Google. My assumption was that many of them are still around but the business model has pivoted to b2b.
