Internet in China

I work on the Internet and very often lately it happens that many resources do not have access. This is a very serious problem for me. I would like to unlock these restrictions. I heard there are such special VPN servers that allow you to connect to unlimited Internet and remove many restrictions. How does it all work today. How to find a reliable VPN server. What conditions do you need to fulfill for this and how much does it cost? And are there any additional options? I would like to understand this in great detail.

It’s illegal to use a VPN to access the internet in China. You shouldn’t ask such questions on here as we are all law abiding and enjoy the fact that we’re protected from fake news and potential hurt feelings by the Chinese government when we are inside Chinese territory. You definitely shouldn’t be working on an online based business if you’re based in China unless you target only the domestic market.

"Lately"? Things have always been this way.

The effectiveness of VPNs comes and goes, depending on where you are, how you're connecting to the internet, the particular VPN, the tides, etc.

Interestingly, I've never seen any suggestion that using a non-Mainland SIM -- which achieves much the same result as a VPN though at higher cost -- is illegal.

Yes, using a roaming SIM card in China is a perfectly legal way to access the internet without the usual restrictions of the great firewall. You can get prepaid SIM cards from Hong Kong and some other SE Asian countries and even the UK (CMLink) with a preloaded amount of data that can be used for roaming in China.

Using a VPN in China is not illegal, but using an unlicensed VPN is. But getting a licenced VPN involves a lot of paperwork and money.

Even Hong Kong sim cards from a Chinese operator can get through the firewall in the PRC. This is the best and cheapest way to get unrestricted internet access that is also perfectly legal.

I wouldn't say it's the cheapest, but I definitely use my HK sim when I'm working.
