Head to the station and buy a ticket. Worry about figuring how to use trip.com later.

"At least one passenger's Mainland China ID card hasn't been verified. Please go to the ticket window at any railway station to verify the ID card first."

So is the ticket actually issued and they just need to verify my ID then? I don't see any confirmation number beginning with an E though. What do I do now? I'm afraid of trying to order another ticket and be stuck with two tickets. I got a few hours before my scheduled departure. Not sure if I actually need to buy a ticket at the counter as I'm now confused.

call them

Before calling he should check his email.

I think I may have figured it out. There are no spaces in between my given names. I can't seem to put spaces. For example, Harry Smith appears as Harrysmith. How do I add spaces? Pressing the space bar on my phone doesn't work.

Yes. They sold you the ticket, right?

Yes, but technically they didn't sell me anything cuz the transaction didn't go through. Anyways, I just called them. They're useless. Essentially told me it could be an IT issue and will get back to me via email. I guess I'll have to go to the train station. If they actually process this transaction after I buy the paper ticket, I'll just report it to Chase. Terrible first experience with Trip.com. Absolute waste of my time.

Yes, if your trip.com name doesn't precisely match your passport name there will be a problem matching your previously verified passport (if in fact it was previously verified). Use all caps.

Not sure why you can't add a space. I just tried on trip.com and I can. And my train tickets as issued show a space.

How do I know it was verified in the past? I just gave the ticket agent my passport and she entered the number and name on to the ticket.

Very strange...let me try my iPhone and book the ticket.

Edit: Are you doing this from your PC? On both my Android and iPhone, I can't add spaces on the mobile website.

I just added a space using Firefox Android. You can also type it out elsewhere and paste it in.

(If you have a 12306 account it shows whether your ID has been verified. Otherwise I suppose you can try asking at the ticket counter.)

No, I don't have a 12306 account.

I'm using Google Chrome and Safari iOS. I already tried typing my name in caps and in proper formatting. Then copied and pasted and the browser then force it all together again. lol....eff...

I just tried Firefox Windows and again, no trouble including a space.

I did click on an information button next to the name box, and it did say inter alia "It is not necessary to enter spaces between names."

Aw man, I don't know why I always encounter such bad luck. Did you ever verified your passport? If so, what did you do?

889 Oct 30, 2019 9:16 pm

My passport shows up as verified on 12306, I guess because I used it to buy a ticket. Or maybe it was grandfathered from verification, I forget. But that's an old passport since replaced by a new one.

Coincidentally, I called them today to fix a botched hotel booking. While the CSR wasn't especially helpful, I (nicely) asked for her manager 5 minutes in, and all was resolved in fairly short order. Could they be better? Sure, but they are well above average in comparison with customer service units at other travel providers (especially airlines).
