Restaurant Suggestions
 
As part of a bigger trip we will be in Shanghai and Beijing each one night at the respective Waldorf Astoria Hotels. We are looking for a memorable dinner in each place. We’d like to spend about $50 USD per person without drinks. We like all kinds of food.

In Beijing, you should definitely eat duck, but this can be lunch instead of dinner, if you prefer. Made in China and Dadong are my two favorites.

Goga is my favorite restaurant in Shanghai, but I do have a strong preference for Western food. Obviously, there are many good Chinese restaurants in Shanghai. Off the top of my head, Sichuan Citizen and Lost in Heaven come to mind.

Lost Heaven on the Bund is convenient for the Waldorf (like 20 yards away). After dinner there I'd head back to the long bar at the Waldorf for cocktails. I went to GoGa several years ago. I didn't much care for it. I mean it was ok, but I didn't think it held up against what you'd find elsewhere overseas (US or Europe). Maybe it's changed. (Or more likely, maybe I just didn't 'get it' in terms of the offering.)

I don't go to Goga often because the menu is limited, and doesn't change much, but they have a few dishes that I really love (e.g. uni and avocado).

Thanks to the recs from you all, I brought my husband for cocktails in the Long Bar at the Waldorf and he adored it!! Gorgeous setting and the Manhattan was perfect.....

I'm posting to partially redact my Goga plug. I went there tonight, and the food is still good/innovative, but I felt that the quality has slipped a bit.
