Tibet during the 2018 lunar New year?

Lunar New year is feb 27, 2018.

I'm in DC but apparently that requires 2 stops at minimum.
Trying to minimize the flight time.

If I fly out of jfk, it's one stop. 20hrs going, 25 hrs coming back because of 8hr layover.
$1100
hainan air lines from jfk to chandu (ctu).
Sichuan airlines from ctu to Tibet (lxa)

How this flight?
Anything better?

thanks

Short version: change your plans.
Long version: Each year since 2008, the Chinese government has closed Tibet to foreigners from roughly 2nd or 3rd week of February through the end of March, since there are some sensitive Tibetan political anniversaries during that time. There is every reason to believe that 2018 will maintain this closure pattern. No Tibet Travel Permits will be issued for any overlap with the closure period which probably won't be known until January, and foreigners in Tibet must leave before it starts. Reopening will be when the authorities feel like it and it is not announced far in advance, but generally April 7 or after is reasonably safe.
