Should I worry flying around the south china sea on July 12?

Hey guys,

I am scheduled to fly from HK to SIN on July 12th. It just happens to be the same day they are scheduled to announce the south china sea ruling. Should I be worried about my flight flying through that region of the world?

Even if something would happen on the sea, I don't think anything short of nuclear war will disrupt civilian aviation there... Too valuable for the Chinese economy.

Do you mean something like Iran Air Flight 655?

I really hope the US learned their lesson that shooting down civilian airliners is a big NO-NO..

+1. Let's assume the ruling goes against China. First it will make strong statements of protest. Next it might move some more military equipment in the general direction, or perhaps declare a new ADIZ. The last time they did that the US protested, but civil aviation just started complying. They didn't start shooting missiles at planes.

The ruling is out, & China to ignore the rule of law. Politics back to the 90's.

But as someone said above , economics of the region will win.

If that's the case.
India can claim a lot larger body of water.

Didn't Japan give its airlines instructions to not comply? In any case, China is not a pariah state and they aren't going to start shooting at anyone. They know where that would get them on the international stage...
