Short connection time in Shanghai.
Hi, how long it take to connect in PVG (T1 to T2). I only have 1h 5 min between the flights and assuming I am travelling without checked baggage and have a printed boarding pass what are my chances to do it, assuming all runs on time. My understanding is I will have to go via the passport controls, not just run from the gate to the gate as in more advanced airports (i.e. SIN)...it is late in the evening (23.30 - 0.35), is it a busy time in PVG?

Maybe I am wrong...specifically is this universally correct now? http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...-Shanghai.html

You will need to walk around 1.5 km in total: -arrival gate to immigration -immigration to t2 departures lobby -(check in for second flight) -departure lobby to exit border control and security -security to gate Since the cut off for check in (international) is t-60 minutes for most airlines, you would need to do the bulk of the above in under 5 minutes. Even if you're a track star, your inbound flight is on time, and you breeze through immigration unencumbered, that's not going to happen. |
Self printed boarding passes are valid for departures from PVG according to SQ...otherwise yes, this is not doable. My complications are that my inbound flight from DPRK and self printing from the web may be complicated...hotel has business centre with Internet but if they have ancient computers the heavy SQ web site is unlikely to open.

If you can pull that off, then instead of having 5 minutes to reach the SQ check-in counter, you'd have 45 minutes (ample time if the stars are aligned perfectly) to get to the gate. That having been said, I would be shocked if anybody here actually endorses this plan. |
SQ does not allow mobile check in in PVG, however I will try just like this. Someone will check me in and send boarding passes on the email and I will try to find the place to print then PVG. That said I am about to book another SQ flight departing at 8am..the fees for refund of miles on canceled redemption booking are nominal. One of two I will cancel.

If I were you, I'd book the 4p flight the next day and chill out in Shanghai. No stress, and it's not like you'll gain a usable day in Singapore if you take the red eye or the 8a. |
