ORD to PEK and back

Hello guys. I am setting up travel to go visit the GF's family for a few weeks in december. Trying to nail down the best flights, but the only direct i see is a nasty nasty ua 747-400. Any thoughts on this route, good connections, best airline/price situation?

AA flies a 777 there, though on a sub-optimal schedule, and HU uses a 787; they often have really good J fares.

what fare would be considered good?

This is low season so around $800 for eco and under $3000 for biz (hu only).

When you get used to paying $1800 for peak roundtrips in Y, $3,000 for J starts to look like a really good deal for occupying 5x as much space on the plane.

Tons of people do. Also in first class.

Maybe you could list some of the prices/options you have for the dates in question? Search on kayak or google flights or whatever and report back.

There are nearly limitless options between ORD and PEK but pricing plays a big role in what is "best" particularly in coach.

I used "y" as shorthand (i.e. typing on phone, therefore lazy) for "economy" in the instance you quoted. $1800 is a pretty typical RT fare during peak times. Actual Y fares cost a lot more than that (~$5k).
