Visa question
 

HI FTers,

I am looking to stay in Zhuhai for 5 days of sight seeing, I am wondering if I can stay there without a visa. Have anyone tried China 144 hour tourist group policy on PRD visit? Do I have to join a group from US or I can join on while I am in HK/Macau.

Visiting the Pearl River Delta or Hainan Island

A. A foreign citizen holding an ordinary passport issued by any country with diplomatic relations with China is exempted from a visa if he or she is already in Hong Kong or Macao and joins a tourist group organized by a travel agency, which is registered in Hong Kong or Macao, for a visit to the Pearl River Delta region (including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing and Huizhou) and his/her stay is no more than 6 days.

To me, what you quoted says that you would join the tour group in Hong Kong or Macao. It might be possible to find a tour from the USA that would subcontract with the Hong Kong or Macao travel agency, but I can't imagine why you would want to do it this way.
