Disagree that the tunnel is most underrated. Agree that it was unforgettable. Still consider it the worst 30Y I‘ve spent in China in my whole time here!

What 'sights' are supposed to be on a tunnel? Tunnel to me implies Lincoln and holland tunnels - a foretaste of hell?

Birthplace of the party. Every adult male in the country wears the same suit. Every person in the country required to carry a red book at all times. That is some history....
Personally I love Shanghai. I visited the first time when I was seven when my dad took me there on a business trip. It was also the first time I flew on an airplane. Also where I had the most amazing spare ribs ever. Also my first international award ticket. The list goes on and on. Whether it be the city itself that attracted me, or if my personal memories and connections that left me reminiscing, I do enjoy the place very much. But I think Hong Kong is a better place to visit. I also think that just because Shanghai is the birth place of the Communist party does not justify visiting there instead of Hong Kong. |
Shanghai has some old houses turned into museums of the "famous leader lived here" sort. They're pleasant and uncrowded, giving insight into what it would have been like to live in Shanghai them. There's also the shophouse museum above the tea shop in Xiandu, the modern sound and light museum at the bottom on whatever tower in Pudong, and the basement history of the city museum close to People's Park. I also remember finding some less known museum of city planning in Hong Kong, which was also basically about the history of the city.
A bunch of the hotels around the French Concession and near the Bund are in interesting historic buildings for those who like old architecture. You can also check out the restored small shopping malls and a couple bank buildings along the Bund. |
