So we flew to Japan today.

After we arrived in Japan, my wife realized that she forgot to pack her Japanese wallet with all her credit cards, ID, money as well as her keys for our home etc...

Things we cannot go without for two weeks IN JAPAN.

So we got our friend who has access to our home and asked him to courier her wallet to us in Japan.

UPS, FedEx, SF - their response was 'Has the wallet being used? If it is used, it is considered second hand, therefore it is illegal to ship it to Japan'

Of course the wallet is 'used', its a wallet that wife uses day to day.

DHL said no problem however they are unable to do international shipping until the 9th when National Week is officially over.

Anybody have any other solutions to this?

Presumably because Ed wants to ship the wallet from China to Japan.

In response to the OP, the simple solution is to ship the contents of the wallet to her... maybe focus on the essential things in case there is a hold up. By the way, it seems like every other PRC company has a DHL account that gets substantial discounts (iirc 50% on small packages just for the asking).

EMS will work better than any courier. Post offices re- opened on the 4th.

EMS takes 10 days, which means my wife only has a wallet for the last 3 days of our trip.

We ended up having our friend take a trip to Shanghai and at Pudong, we had a friend of a friend of a friend carry the wallet to Japan and from there he will ship it to us.

We owe our friend major, he had to take the high speed train to Shanghai and back from Wenzhou.

Arrived by Japanese domestic courier Sunday. It took 3 days total.

Total cost of this misadventure 1500 RMB
