Storing/Forwarding luggage?
We're thinking about doing a couple weeks or so in China on the way to Indonesia for diving next fall. One thing we're concerned about is hauling our dive gear through China. Any suggestions for forwarding a couple big bags from Beijing to Shanghai? Would a hotel there hold them for our arrival? Alternatively, we could arrange to go back to Beijing before heading leaving the country, so a storage option there might work.
I'm sure I can get the Bali office for the dive resort to hold a bag while we're a the resort, so we don't have to take it on the charter flight. And we're both *G so we can check extra bags for the flights. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Two bags at about 50lb (23kg) each, probably. Do you think they hotels would have a problem holding them?

And make sure you address the bags to the Shanghai Hotel to hold for "Guest FlyingDiver, checking in year/month/day) with Reservation Conf #.

Thanks for the info. This is looking more doable. ;)

Resurrecting an ancient thread, but I started it so I figure it's ok.
Never did do this when I first posted this, but we're sort-of doing it now. Going to China next month, then a week in Austria on the way back. Tour in China is limiting us to one bag 20kg each, mostly due to multiple internal flights. We'd like to pack an extra bag with clothes for Europe, and ship it from the hotel in Beijing (tour start) to the hotel in Hong Kong (tour end). No issue on our international flights, we can check multiple bags each. I'm seeing posts elsewhere that shipping Beijing to Hong Kong is not as easy as to Shanghai. Is that true? Can anyone suggest a shipper that I can contact ahead of time to set this up? I'll be sure to contact the hotel in Hong Kong ahead of time to clear it with them. |
We ship documents to HK on a regular basis via SF Express, and the cost is not appreciably different than domestic destinations. I've never shipped anything of value to HK, but I'm guessing a suitcase or two packed with clothes would be okay. I suggest you contact SF Express to get details.

Shipping goods to HK will be much slower and possibly involve paperwork as it is going across borders.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out SF Express.
