CZ MEL-CAN-CDG transit questions

Hi everyone,

I tried searching for experiences with transiting @ CAN but wasn't able to find anything, apologies if it has been asked before.

I have a flight mid April from Melbourne - Paris via Guangzhou. the layover is roughly 6 hours or so. Can anyone share their experiences of transiting and any particular things I should do to ease the process? Am I required to pass through immigration? I'm already fairly weary of flying CZ ( had to get a last minute ticket due to AirasiaX axing the MEL-KUL-ORY route)

Any tips anyone can give to assist with the 6 hour long layover much appreciated ;)

Kind Regards,
Henry

Allow me to be brief:

1. Yes, you will need to go through immigration. However, CAN has been experimenting with a system that works more like true TWOV: exit the plane, go through security and go back up to departures. I don't know if it's continuing now, but I would presume it is.
2. It helps if you speak Chinese.
3. While I haven't spent a lot of time in CAN, do be warned that there's a lack of shops and restaurants in the international area, and it could get pretty boring.

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you Akiestar.

ah if it is indeed as simple as going through security back to departures then that's fantastic.

Considering it is Guangzhou, I hope most of the airport staff speak Cantonese as I don't know mandarin at all.

mm, 6 hours plane spotting won't be too bad I guess.

If you speak Cantonese I think you're 99.9% likely to be ok here.

Indeed - at CAN airport Cantonese is ok. English however is not (as I found out last year :))
