I believe they know exactly how it works which is why the Middle East issue is causing additional clamp downs in China.

 If you are trying to support some point with all this, it's not coming across very effectively. My point was that it would not occur to the Chinese that putting some sort of Special Security Hell on passengers exiting PVG to the USA would result in a change in US govt security policy. So I'm saying this theory of yours doesn't hold water. You seem to not want to consider this, and prefer to challenge and stick to your theory. Well...OK.

A number of people on this thread have told you what is "normal" for security checks on flights out of PVG (also other China, also in Asia and sometimes beyond) to the USA. The descriptions all pretty much square up. Can there sometimes be additional procedures for some special circumstance (interpol tip, looking for contraband rather than terrorists, big supervisor watching, etc.)? Sure, but that would be the exception not the rule.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish anymore with this thread. Your original post asked a question which has been answered. It just doesn't seem to be the answer you want.

The answers have been fine and well explained, including yours but your description of the Chinese being clueless as to how democracy works was in need of a response. But I'm done now and thank everyone for their responses.

You offend me. That is not what I said and is completely your own paraphrasing and interpretation. I think it is well that you depart before you appear any more foolish.

Other's can read both of our comments above and then decide for themselves. Making statements that the Chinese don’t understand something (“It would never occur to them…how the US system works-paraphrase”) will perhaps put you in the same foolish statement bucket you mentioned. I am unlikely to be the only one who was puzzled by your positions (IMO uninformed position). Points of view are allowed here and I will try not to offend you or anyone but please do not be offended by everyone with a different opinion.
Cheers

My comment had to do with the fact that the Chinese authorities generally DON'T care about what the average passenger thinks when setting their own security policies, and they wouldn't assume that the US authorities in charge of security would do it any differently. It has nothing to do with "democracy" or what the Chinese understand or don't understand about it. You completely missed the point, which I doubt if most of the regulars on this board did. YOU are the one went down the "democracy" track which is completely off-topic for this thread.

I can deal with differences of opinion and am not offended by that. But you completely misinterpreted and twisted my own words and meaning to present your point of view. THAT is what I don't appreciate and find offensive.

Very good. No offence here either.
