Apple products in Beijing

Hi,

I'm wondering about the prices now for the new iPod touch in Beijing. And the best stores for browsing electronics of all sorts. Thanks.

If you want the real deal, you'll end paying a bit more for it here.

Well, I've bought some things from China and they are quite in a good shape. I'm looking to compare the prices for now.

TMK, if you want genuine products, the Apple stores are pretty much your only option, apart from taobao. Prices are set in parity with the US, for the most part, but you don't get those carrier provided discounts, and there is a ~four week delay for new items.

Apple products in China are rumored to be of less quality than those in the US. I have no data, but wouldn't be surprised. In general, US is the place to buy electronics over China except for cell phones.

US??? How 'bout Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and I would definitely place China among these... Well, I'm not a specialist but I've seldom heard about electronics bought in China breaking up.

Maybe I've just been a victim of bad luck, but I've fallen victim to many shoddily made electronic products over here.

Whether or not things sold in China are inferior, I am still confused as to why you would come to China in order to buy gizmos from an American company. Genuine Apple products are certainly no cheaper in China, and China is among the last markets to receive new releases. In fact, many people go out of their way to have friends in the US make purchases upon their behalf and either mail them to China or bring them in person.
