Typo? When booking on partners, there is no such thing as low, medium, high. IME DL miles are sweet over here, especially ex-PVG. I've always been able to get flights close to my preferred dates for tickets that would have otherwise cost $600+.

Similarly, UA miles rock for SE Asia; 15k miles to SIN is a no brainer.

I meant on DL metal, thanks for catching my error. And I redact everything I said about DL intra-Asia, see my new thread on why DL now sucks.

the cheapest option would be buying a r/t on zuji.com.hk from tpe to hkg and then another r/t from hkg to pvg on Spring Airline via their own website. usually around 400usd(total for 2 r/t). unfortunately, there is no way to get a cheaper fare directly from hkg to pvg since there is almost no competition. another option is use *alliance miles as China and tpe are both in North asia and r/t would cost u only 25k miles. good luck

There are no *A flights between PVG and TPE (why turn a 400 mile trip into an all day affair?), so it makes much more sense to burn down those DL miles. While the cost for that award may have gone up 5k miles last week, the value of DL miles took a nose dive at the same time. They are pretty easy to pick on Coupon Connection.

The cheapest paid way is probably buying a non-stop ticket, which is available from 1,500 yuan r-t (as per email from CZ today, which -btw- also codeshares on CI flights), up to a regular fare of about 2,800 yuan. Still less than 400 USD and all that without the hassle and wasted time when going via ICN, HKG, MFM etc., particularily on a "dirty connection".

Elong is your friend as well...

CA flies that route three times a day.

I didn't know about that. I guess CA is really ramping up in SH (part of the reason for the FM switch).

But, I would still encourage anyone contemplating this route to attempt to pull it off with 12k DL miles. On the off chance it works, it provides a really good return in value per mile.

IIRC CA has always had a presence in PVG/SHA, even before they joined *A.

BTW, it seems that CA flies SHA/TSA too, twice daily.

On Zuji you get the CA flights TPE-PVG-TPE for around 3500 HK$.
Originating from PVG CZ is even under 3000 HK$ some times. So it seems competition is having effects.

(And through my travel agent in HK I usually get it even a little cheaper than zuji.
HKG-DUS by CA in May Zuji Price 5990, I paid 5900 HK$.)

I just bought a PVG/TPE/PVG ticket couple of weeks ago on CZ for ¥2120 all in.

benzemalyonnais Feb 26, 2011 11:01 am

And I just bought multiple PVG-TPE's r/t on CZ for 420¥ + 600¥ tx/fees. Same fare is on CZ's Chinese language site under specials and works from Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shenyang, Dalian, Shenzhen.....can't get those specials on CTrip
