Amused by the new TSA uniforms..

When I heard that the TSA was issuing uniforms which were going to be more cop-like, I had the same fear that others have mentioned: people would confuse the TSA with police and assume that they have more power than they have, but I was wrong.

Now that I've seen a bunch of screeners in the new dress, I've come to the conclusion that it looks like a police uniform designed by Hanna-Barbera: the colors are incredibly cartoonish. With that uniform and their slack demeanor, there's no chance that screeners will be mistaken for police.

Very Smurf-like.

They'll only look worse over time too.... that type of color fades badly.

If you want proof that the police-imitation uniforms is all for show, note that the baggage handlers, the people behind the scenes, are still wearing their burgundy polo shirts.

I wondered why I still see people wearing those shirts walking around the airport (landside) but never at the actual checkpoint. That explains it!

The color is more simular to the scrubs that my kids wear.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but ALL uniforms are, by definition, all for show. That's the point. :)

True, but the new uniforms are there for an entirely different reason.

Why do their badges have OFFICER on them? They really have no LEO powers, right...so isn't that some kind of crime to be identified as OFFICER?

I just hate them all. *sigh*

Intimidation.

These new uniforms were a bad idea. I've never had to put so many lippy TSO's in their place or gotten into so many fights w/ TSO's as I've had since the week they started wearing these. The uniforms have turned these people into complete and utter cnuts.

The mall security guard's badge at my mall says OFFICER too. Not uncommon.

In my book, if you want to be called an officer, you gotta have an office. Few officers meet that standard.

As I said earlier, intimidation.
