If you want to check your toothpaste, that's fine - but don't you feel even slightly concerned that the thousands of pounds of cargo sitting a few feet under you has not been screened for any explosives or other dangerous items, like poison gas, biochemical/biological agents or who knows what?

Since I despise flying I am concerned about everything! By the same token nobody is going to do anything about the cargo area until the day something is put there and there is some terrible disaster.

They actually confiscated a LIGHTSABRE as a 'replica WEAPON'??? Are these people totally out of their frickin' minds??

I once saw TSA place a baby starting to crawl on a blanket on the floor and tried to wand the baby and of course the baby was trying to crawl away. I think you can imagine what a sight that was!

But nobody put explosive liquids or gels on an aircraft (nor was the alleged plot even feasible), yet here we are having our shampoo confiscated in the name of security.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. "Some terrible disaster" has already happened. By the standard you've implied, shouldn't the lessons from Pan Am 103 have sunk in by now?

Screen cargo for explosives, and pax for explosives and credible weapons, right? How exactly, in your estimation, do X-ray machines and WTMDs detect explosives in shoes, liquids/gels, etc.?
