We were talking today on the Checkpoint about the liquid ban and the doctors notes and valid medical reasons to have liquids. So since alcoholism is a valid medical diagnosis you could have a doctors note that says you are an alcoholic and then you can take your favorite alcoholic beverage on the plane. :eek:

I was just talking to a Mr. Park's nephew who is studying to be a pharmacist and the hospital that he is interning (?) at has beer in the pharmacy for the alchoholics.

Coincendentally, I remember a pax who had two six packs of beer in his carry on. His hands were shaking so bad I didn't even have to ask.

Well, a funny joke, but the real truth is that you don't need a doctor's note to bring anything through security. All you need is a piece of paper that claims to be a doctor's note - something any idiot with a printer can produce in a few minutes.

It always makes me laugh when TSA agents ask for doctor's notes as "proof" of something. Since a high school diploma is a job requirement, don't any of these people remember any of their classmates in school faking parents' notes to get out of school? :rolleyes:

You mean a GED....? They're hiring people that even McDonald's won't look at. And McDonald's hires everyone, undocumented aliens and criminals included.

True, TSA requires their TSO's have a HS Diploma or GED. However, McDonalds has no such requirement.

I'm surprised it was in the pharmacy. Usually it's in the kitchen locked up.

I thought the main point to the people bringing in food from the outside was because of the inability to procure it in the sterile area (glucerna and other such meal replacements as well as formula). Last time I checked pretty much every airport has a ready supply of alcohol and unless your flying to/from NM on US Airways all flights do also.

We Americans should have the freedom to bring food and beverages in to the "sterile area".

When I lived up in Alaska, our hospital kept a six-pack in what was the Emergency Room pharmacy stock. It was for any alcoholics who were going through severe withdrawal symptoms, I suppose. They would have to be pretty desperate; it was Rainer or Keystone Light or something nasty like that.

The nephew said they stock Old Milwaukee.

When I was a surgical intern, the trauma center used A5D5 for the IVs of trauma patients that had a positive blood alcohol level on arrival to the trauma ER. Yes that is 5% ethyl alcohol given by IV route for all + trauma patients. We did wean them off it quite fast though.

The VA hostpital had what was called "Spirits of Frumenti" in the pharmacy... AKA Jim Beam. :D Measured by the 30ml dose.

I'm sure the shrinks call serial killing a 'mental disorder'. Does that mean a mass murderer can bring his doctor's note along with his axe, gun and bomb and you'll let him on the plane? :D They're just 'meds' for his condition!

Wouldn't a better prescription for an alcoholic be to AVOID alcohol? Sometimes I just don't get modern medicine...
