How to travel with a different ticket name...
 
I inadvertantly flew without an id a few days ago.

I had bought a AUS-DFW ticket on AA

Then I had a DFW-DTW ticket on NWA...I printed this boarding pass on-line.

Since I was inside security, no one ever asked to see an ID from DFW-DTW. I could have used someone elses ticket.

An interesting trick since you normally cannot change names to ticketed reservations, but your are not asked for ids once you are inside security.

I guess, you could also buy a refundable ticket to just get inside security and then do something similar.

Yup. ID is not security.

Sure, and it's fine by me. ID is not security; and if the security checkpoint is doing its job then there's no reason for any concern.

Works for me; I'm 100% in favor of no-ID travel with no extra harassment.

agree, i don't have to use an ID for a bus, train, trolley, taxi, etc... why should i have to for the airplanes. does anyone know how far back the ID thing was instituted? And for what reason? ie: airlines didn't want people ticket swapping, or security?

The airlines should be able to require ID if they like for revenue protection.

The government should have zero say in the ID requirement area.
