After all, cleanliness is next to godliness

Has anyone who's flown recently successfully brought "Wet Wipes" (or a similar product) through security?

One of the liquids that I generally carry around is sample-size Purell, and though it's difficult to imagine what reason a TSA agent would provide for explaining how "Wet Wipes" could constitute a dangerous product to be confiscated, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I encountered an agent who tried to confiscate them if they were in my purse (based on a variety of reasons).

Any successful attempts to report?

I would be very interested to hear the answer to this as well. I'm flying to the US on Saturday, and I figured I had thought of all the items I would have to put in my checked luggage. I typically carry a couple of wet wipes to get the ink of my fingers after reading the newspaper during the beginning of the flight, as well as a few wipes intended for monitor cleaning that I use to clean my laptop. I never thought that those might be considered too dangerous to bring on a flight.

I'm also curious. I occasionally throw a single wash n dry into my carry on.

Of course wipes themselves aren't dangerous or perceived as such. The question is whether something dangerous could masquerade as a wipe.

As Qs about what can be brought through security should be posed in our Travel Safety/Security forum, I'll move this there for discussion. Ocn Vw 1K, Co-Mod., TBuzz

I saw a vendor whose "takeaway" items at his conference booth were pen-shaped hand sanitizer dispensers. @:-)

You should have no problems.

My wife has been carrying Magellan's WC pouches for quite some time ever since a rather bad experience with a public bathroom. The pouches containt a toilet seat cover, some tissues and a wet-wipe. They are nice because everything is in one self-contained little pouch which fits easily in my pocket or her day pack if we're out sight-seeing.

When she has her "big" purse and/or the large pack that we use for our stuff and the baby gear enroute, she packs some Charmin To Go travel toilet paper, seat covers and Freshmates along with a pouch of antibacterial Wet-ones. She's never been stopped or questioned about them.

I haven't flown since the new restrictions were put in place, but everything I've read says that items in towelette form are fine. I am interested to know the answer to this, too.

wet ones positive experience

First, I will caution that my husband's "chlorox wipes" (which actually do
not contain any bleach/chlorox, but are that brand) were confiscated under
the new restrictions.

However, we successfully brought wet-ones (in a canister) and
wash-n-dries in their little foil packets, as well as other wet-ones that
I'd put into a ziploc. No questions about it, even under the new
restrictions.

We'll be trying again today, and hopefully that will be the same.

Yes, no Purell is a real PITA.

They do make Purrell sanitizing hand towels at 62% ETHYL ALCOHOL. I carry them as well as a mini bottle of the straight stuff but I guess I'll just have to take only the individual towels now. At least that's something before eating on a plane.

I always carry a pack of Nice 'n Clean wipes in my briefcase/purse; and right now there are several individual packets of wipes in there too. No one has questioned them.

Too logical. One wouldn't think water is particularly dangerous either, but it is banned too!

Just think: those wipes could all have been treated to become nitrocellulose.

I had to surrender my .... clean wipes at LHR on Monday (21/8/2006).

I have a small 10-pack of wet wipes in my carry-on. In the past few days it has come through security as follows:

SJU on 13 Aug (and a very through hand-search)
SMF on 18 Aug
SFO on 19 Aug
BOS on 21 Aug

No problems at any of them.
