TSA employee dynamics
Here's a little snippet from the tsascreener.com forum that shows some of the employee dynamics that occur within the TSA, especially now that thousands are being laid off:
Posted By: blueyes on 6/2/2003 8:56:25 AM Rality bites: Just one question Slob.... if you hate it so much, why are you still here ? Save the next persons job who wants to be here and quit... one less future layoff. You think this place is so bad ? You obviously haven't been in the workforce long. This is like any large company, you do your job, do it correctly, you don't cause waves you keep your job. The secret here is simple, don't get written up. All 7 layed off in terminal 2 had attendence issues. The ones I knew had ben AWOL at least once. Their lucky they weren't fired on the spot. In training they made it clear that would not be tolerated. Weither I liked them or not and I did BTW, it comes down to CYA and they didn't. I hope next they get rid of the dead wood. Those who stand around doing nothing. We are desperatly understaffed now and frankly those people only make our jobs harder. They bring down the moral and make others work harder to get the job done. This is not a job at Publix or KMart, this is national security, its serious its important and those who are here for the paycheck only undermind everything we stand for! Two good workers can do more then 5 bad ones I hope they cut the fat, get them out of the way so we can really do what we were meant to do ,Protect the public ! As for those who are gone, some will be missed I do wish them well ! Posted By: SLOB on 6/2/2003 11:13:14 PM " LOVE THE TSA, BABY": "I never stated that I hated my job, blueeyes." The comments made were not from I, but from the person who was recently terminated. As for myself, this is the best job in the entire world! I wouldn't work anywhere else but for the TSA. When I put on that uniform, I feel very honored and proud to be on the frontlines fighting terrorism. There is no telling just how many potential highjackings I may have prevented. I can you one thing, whenever I find a prohibited item like a pair of scissors or a small pocket knife, The thrill and excitement is beyond words. I know the terrorists are afraid of us! They see the high level of security they we present. They know that they will never ever get anything past us. Why? Because of the intensive training that we all have had. Forty hours of classroom training and a course in customer service has made me a highly trained well respected federal agent. The terrorists know that they are no match for TSA AGENTS!! Bin Laden himself would be petrified to be confronted by a TSA AGENT! You are definitely right about getting rid of the dead wood. I firmly believe that this place is too lenient with us. There should be a very strict military like setting here. We should all stand at attention at briefings and be inspected daily. I also think they should do away with the 15 minute breaks. A 30 minute lunch is all that is required. So, I am 100% pro TSA. Now if you really believe that, then I have a luxurious palace to sell you dirt cheap in Baghdad. For a price of 30k! It has 26 bathrooms, 17 massive bedrooms, 8 swimming pools, nestled on 500 acres. |

Do you have to be a TSA screener to post on tsascreener.com?
|
No.

There are a lot of very earnest and well-meaning people on tsascreener.com who joined the TSA with the highest of intentions (public service, fighting terrorists, etc). Now about half of them are in denial and still think it's a great agency and the other half have become complete cynics. It's fun to watch them battle.

Maybe this agency will destroy itself so Congress won't have to... Originally posted by CATSA Screener: There are a lot of very earnest and well-meaning people on tsascreener.com who joined the TSA with the highest of intentions (public service, fighting terrorists, etc). I hate to point this out; but, did anyone else notice the general level of competence with the English language in those two posts?
Yeah -- now flame me for my run-on sentence! |

I think I'll avoid it much as I avoid posting on untied.com . http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif Originally posted by DisgruntledGoat: Spiff should post there. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif |
It's unfair, but I despise you people.
Honest folks get real jobs where they don't torture honest citizens. While a small number of you may have accidently ended up pestering us, most of you like pushing other folks around. TSA employees are mostly there because they like pushing the rest of us around. I hate it, and it's keeping me from buying tickets. Bin Laden is winning, and you are some of the enablers. Enjoy. |

I wouldn't call it unfair.

So not only is there no consistency from airport to airport, there is often no consistency on one point from screener to screener. That's what poor leadership, crappy hiring practices and mushy, goofy directives do to an organization. |
It's too bad that a minority of bad apples can ruin the reputation of a whole agency, but that's pretty much what has happened -- at least among frequent flyers. People who seldom get on planes may think that everything is terrific, but we know better.
