Schengen - Temporary Reintroduction of Border Control
I am not quite sure where to put this so mods, feel free to move as necessary.
Some countries have temporarily reintroduced border controls intra-Scengen. I saw it in an Italian newspaper this morning as Italy has introduced controls at the Slovenian land border but it is in Italian so here is another source: https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/po...der-control_en The Schengen Borders Code (SBC) provides Member States with the capability of temporarily reintroducing border control at the internal borders in the event of a serious threat to public policy or internal security. |
Here's an English article of that reintroduction: https://apnews.com/article/italy-slo...9155d5383b8cb4
A lot of these "temporary" reintroductions of border controls are just non-stop renewals of the "temporary" border controls. France is particularly guilty of this. I think covid slowed down their actual implementation of them. Kinda dumb when France was only doing it on flights, and it was a flight from Frankfurt to the southwest, meanwhile you could drive to the French border in as much time and not go through any control. Credit to Italy for just doing it for 10 days, but I guess we'll see how long it actually ends up being for. |

Denmark did some kind of reintro of temp border control from Germany, but it’s not been evident on my flights into CPH from Germany.
Sweden said it was going to strengthen border controls into the country from Schengen, but I have not been hit by it on any of my flights to ARN from Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Even the surface border crossing from CPH into Sweden using the train has had no increase in passport control check frequency over what was the case at this time 12-15 months ago. |
A few more currently in force (until different dates in November)
PL/SK SK/HU AT/CZ SL/HR SL/HU These are not enforced strictly, often just a bored policeman standing around, looking out for suspected people smugglers. And of course the “green border” is open as before, it’s perfectly legal to cross over a field or forest

Prior to the current crisis, late September, my tour bus was stopped between Slovenia and Italy for a passport check for everyone. In March, was in Basel, inadvertently got on a transit bus in the wrong direction (entered Germany), bus was stopped and passport check for everyone. I assumed that this was all routine.
