CATSA Incident: Woman with a pacemaker was patted down by man to get through security
A woman with a pace maker requested a pat down instead of WTMD on advice of her doctor. A female screener was not available to conduct the pat down, things went downhill from there.
Seems things never change.
"I said to the guy, 'I can't go through the metal detector. I have a pacemaker. I want a woman to pat me down.'"

Although airlines have been under-staffed since the COVID-19 pandemic, Duncan Dee, former chief operating officer of Air Canada, said the opposite is true for CATSA.
"They reported staffing numbers which exceed the staffing numbers they had pre-pandemic for fewer travellers," Dee said.

Dee said CATSA should not have an all-male shift of screeners "under any circumstances."
"The fact that they did not have a female screener scheduled to work during that shift is a huge contravention of their own internal procedures."

I got a pacemaker two months ago that is airport security-friendly and even MRI-friendly. I've managed to make it through the pre-Check WTMD twice without dying. Anyone can feel the device below my left shoulder right below my skin. What in blazes is a screener from any country going to determine when they feel a lump below my skin? Do I have an atomic demolition munition the size of a Kennedy half-dollar right below my skin? How about an anthrax bomb that is suddenly going to appear from underneath my shirt? How about a cache of fentanyl?

Not having a female screener with the required skills on duty is an inexcusable issue. Patdowns are demeaning enough without having it done unwillingly by the opposite sex. CATSA and TSA must be sharing their playbooks with each other.

I'm not saying this is ok, but ZBF is a fairly isolated and extremely small airport.
To the extant before the recent terminal upgrade, you could barely fit 50 people in the secure side.
Aircraft refueling was done from a gas pump style system, no fuel trucks on field.
This wasn't ok, and catsa needs to be held accountable, but this didn't happen at somewhere like YYZ, YHZ or even YQM.....
