The Ugly Traveler -- raging on TSA
In Pre line today at IAH I was behind a lady who was told to wear her bulky coat through the magnetometer instead of putting it on the belt. Her husband went ballistic over that. Yelling “there’s no sign!!! I want to speak to a supervisor!” His poor wife was humiliated by her husband’s outburst. He gave up waiting for a supervisor but continued to whine and moan all the way to the club, including in the elevator which I was sharing. Then they stood at the bar and for ten minutes he loudly continued to rant saying the same thing over and over. Comments like “they’re a bunch of overpaid, under qualified idiots,” and I bet if you were wearing a headscarf they wouldn’t have said a thing.” His wife continued to beg him to stop. Pretty much everyone in the bar area was staring at him. When I got my drink and headed to my seat I turned to him and quietly said “Sir, take a breath. Give it a rest.” He yelled “you mind your own business!!” I replied “you’ve made it my business by loudly continuing your rant for the last 15 minutes.” His wife then, more forcefully, said “Steve! stop it NOW!” He then grabbed his bag and departed. Leaving her behind. I’m glad I’m not on the flight to CLT this morning. |

I think that if this is the worst thing that happens to him today, he is, indeed, a blest man.

Yup, "My wife was NOT required to take off her coat and that's a violation of her civil liberties."
|
I've been single for about 10 years and this guy is married?
His wife's life was literally made easier by the TSA. |
I (we?) must be missing something.
|
i would have some sympathy for the man as well -- easily a mental health issue versus a character flaw. but for the grace of gaijoobles.

Does the OP have it backwards somehow? You are generally instructed to take OFF a bulky coat not to leave it on??
|
Who's wearing a bulky coat in Texas in late May?
|
It is Precheck. They often tell me I can keep my coat on - I don't though, and take it off since the pockets are full of metal and electronics (the same reason I take off my belt with the metal buckle).

OP, was this guy mad because his wife was told she HAD to take off her coat, or told she did NOT have to take of her coat? If the former, at least I understand the logic, if not the behavior. If the latter, the guy appears to be a totally non-sensical person. |
What's the United angle in this story?

As this seems to be a "TSA rage" incident, will move to Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate
where it can be combined with other similar incidents. WineCountryUA UA coModerator |
