Why palms up??

TSA instructs you to have your palms up when they frisk you but when I tell that I can't rotate my right wrist in that position (well, I can it just hurts like F) they have no problem. So strange. Why the instruction then?

Control.

Make it more difficult for you to slug one of them.

Yes, even as it makes if easier to play “whack-a-mole” on their heads. But those aren’t the reasons why. It’s to make examination and groping easier for the TSA while trying to make the targets feel disempowered by those making such demands in the name of security.

Some are surprised the TSA hasn’t gone even more like prisoner admission facilities and demanded that screening subjects spread their private parts, bend over and cough, or things like that. Body cavity searches have not skipped the mind of DHS/TSA management.

Being disempowered is the same thing as being put into a position where it is hard to strike back.

I've been saying this for years, but passengers need to learn to refuse, even if it means lying. "I can't physically do that" when told to assume the position, get out of your wheelchair and stand, remove your orthopedic boot. I can dream, can't I.

Who wants to bet that the red team got something through by palming it?

I have an old game I play: hiding objects on the back of my hand with my palms open and up. If were asked to spread my fingers, my hiding trick wouldn’t be as much fun as it is.

But the mastery of concealment would be in dual-use components and hidden components, but not in or on the hand.

Funny, but when commanded to do this, I have trouble extending the palm of my hands. All of my fingers except for the middle finger curl up. The same thing happens in the Pornoscope machine. :p

I summed it up in one word. It's not about security.

Not if you've been trained properly. :)

Sure it is. They want to see if you have anything in your hands.

Hopefully, that was written with sarcasm in mind. They could ask to see the palms of your hands and not make you stand in a somewhat contorted uncomfortable position for a prolonged length of time.

Not sure if your comment was snark or not. If not isn't the purpose of the Whole Body Imager to see if you have something concealed on your person, including in the hands?

Yes, but why keep people standing in that position after they have seen the palms when it's simple to just let them turn their hands so palms are facing down and the stance is comfortable?
