OZ and KE have applied for exemptions to policy until the new year since KE will be moving into the new terminal at ICN. OZ will be reorganizing and spreading out in Terminal 1.

I’m hoping these mandatory checks can be done at the gate as well...

Also, many airports have kiosks where one can check in (up to 24 hours before your flt), I wonder if these will be in operation? Besides bypassing the check-in counter, I've been able to upgrade from Y to BC for a "reasonable" $ amt.

Lots in the news recently of ISIL recruits returning to western counties. Wonder if it is linked?

CX won't allow you to check in in Kowloon or Central for a US flight now. Lame.

This news reports that aside from passenger interviews, "some (airlines) may meet the requirements in other ways."

http://abcnews.go.com/International/...ry?id=50718218

Does anyone know what some of these other ways are for airlines to meet the US requirements? Which airlines use interviews versus other methods?

Also no more self-drop baggage with CX (from https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/61226797.cms )

Does anyone know what kind of procedures Air France is implementing at CDG? I read they'll hand out forms with questions (which?) to fill out. My connecting flight to the U.S. departs from there, I'm wondering where I'll go through the additional screening (At the gate? At security?). I think it's becoming a bit ridiculous the amount of bureaucracy to visit the U.S. even for Visa Waiver passport holders...

Oh nooo! I love in town check in.

I only recently learned that the requirement was sub 24 hours for in town check in for USA flights, whereas other flights allowed check in any time the day before.

I wonder if this can be used by the airlines to deny boarding and avoid compensation. They can say "Our employee asked you security questions and was not satisfied with your answers. Therefore, you cannot fly today. We cannot disclose any more information about this, for security reasons. Have a nice day." And easy out of paying compensation for IDB.

I suspect it could.

Seth Miller's report from BCN today:

My "security interview" experience today

Like thousands of other I boarded an international fight this morning headed to the United States. All of us were “lucky” enough to participate in day one of the latest version of “enhanced” security screening for flights inbound from foreign countries. And if my experience is the norm I cannot help but wonder what the point of the exercise is.

It’s the same kind of junk as it was before. Except now, the resource pool is even more shallow and yet more people covered by this kind of generally unproductive junk.

This explains all the new signs at LHR yesterday about g:oing to the gate early for new security procedures.

pa3lsvt Oct 26, 2017 6:39 am

Flying FCO-PHL last year, I was asked the following questions:
1) "Why were you in Rome?" Tourism
2) "How long were you in Rome?" Seven days
3) "What did you do in Rome?" Saw the sights.
3a) "What sights?" The Colosseum, the Vatican, Trevi Fountain

How hard would that be to fake? One minute on any Rome tourism website and anyone could list the most popular sights to see. In fact, Mrs. pa3lsvt was with me and said nothing so you only need to train one semi-effective liar and the partner can stay mute.

Anyone that has trained for a paramilitary operation should be able to pass this 'security check' without any issue especially considering that the questioner is likely a contract employee for AA - with less voodoo training than the TSA's own ineffective BDO staff.

Finally, I've read about questions that ask more personal details (where do you work, how far is your office from your house, who is the CEO of your company, what is your final destination) that would elicit a "nunya" answer from me: nunya bizness.

I've given the same to TSA doc checkers that asked about my final destination on purely domestic itineraries and although dissatisfied with my answer, I have been allowed to pass.
