DHS OIG doing another round of covert testing

Roth: We are in the midst of another round of covert testing of checkpoint ops. We will report results
Bets are being taken on the results.

On other TSA-related topics:

If DHS is doing covert testing then why in the world would that fact be mentioned until after completion of the testing?

Covert testing is constantly being conducted by a variety of entities in a variety of ways: the DHS-IG, by FSDs, an Airport's Security Director, Airport Police, and TSA Offices of Inspection; from time to time, even the Feebs participate.

Mentioning it is happening is of no consequence but cooking the books by stating when and where is.

Consistent with past covert testing results, We, the People, will pay dearly for the TSA's failings.

If all of these groups have been conducting covert testing then why does the OIG always find TSA's performance to be so lacking?

For the same reasons persons are regularly able to enter the White House complex without authorization....very complex systems tend to have failures. And when was the last time you heard of an auditor reporting, "everything was great, no problems here at all"?

For $8,000,000,000.00 annuallyTSA should be pretty darn good but that's not what the taxpayers are getting.

True. but in a corollary, for the 50 times that amount (net) that the taxpayers spend annually on Medicare one might argue that the covered populace should be a whole lot healthier (or at least receiving better care and outcomes.....)

Actually, our ISO audits, from multiple certifying agencies, generally turn up no more than 1 or 2 "observations", and no non-conformities. For 5 years running.

As always, YMMV.

Are you really going to compare Medicare with TSA. If TSA ran Medicare we'd all be dead!

Sorry - I have actually been to the White House dozens of times and the visitor access system (I'm sure you know all about WAVES) is East German quality.

And, yes, I have been involved in multiple IG audits of very complex systems where there were no significant findings and recommendations. It can be done, but the TSA has neither the competence nor the desire to improve. The basic issue is that nobody in the entire DHS is a stakeholder in the success of civil aviation.

The TSA fails regularly at the level of high school physics (laws of electrical and magnetic fields).
