I started towards the west CP and the moat dragons were sending everyone to the east CP, claiming that it was very busy. The sign said a 2-min wait at the east CP and a 3-min wait at the west CP. I walked past the paid ExtortionCheck line and it didn't seem terribly long.

I went down the stairs to the east checkpoint. There were two ID checkers' desks at each end of the hall, a clerk walking Buster, the Showdog, and there were ~10 SPOTNiks standing around. I got to the belt and screening was ExtortionCheck for all. The NOSs were completely turned off. You could tell that they had been in this mode for quite a while because there were no bins to be found. The people who literally bought the extortion must have no idea this is going on (unless they read FT!)

The homosapien handler may be the reason for Pre level screening.

Yeah - they simply can't go back to rest-of-world screening, so I guess Buster is a cheap way to send the illusion that security is as "tight" as ever.

Flew out of DTW last night. Check point took 3 minutes are 6:30 pm.

How is MSP been looking in the 6am to 9am hours lately.

Surprise, surprise. Long lines apparently have returned to ORD.

To inject some dark humour: I wonder what happens sooner, the end of a TSA line or approval of a Pre-Check application :D

Being reported on WBAP radio this morning is a blurb for people to expect up to 90 minute TSA screening delays at DAL today. Is TSA putting out the word that they expect to be short staffed during the middle of the week? They already know they can't do their jobs?

Nobody in the Pre line at the West End Security Checkpoint at MCO yesterday morning at 7.15am and I mean nobody. 2 mins to get through pre-check at T5 JFK at 4.15pm yesterday afternoon. Amazing.

How were the regular lines?

The regular lines at MCO when I passed through there yesterday morning were not long at all. In fact they look shorter than I had seen there for quite a while. My guess is that it would have taken 15 minutes max to get through them.

As this is the first time I have been through T5 at JFK I thought that line looked reasonable, certainly not long by any means. Not sure how long it would take to get through them.

It's amazing how quickly this "long line" problem got solved after Neffie got hauled up in front of a couple of Committees on the Hill who questioned him about it.

The fix was in TSA getting more money and people. Work slowdown until Congress once again refused to control the purse.

Congress was hoodwinked.

I was in IAD last Friday evening rush hour. I was travelling with non-Pre friend through a regular security line. What was interesting is that regular line employed essentially precheck protocol. You don't have to take out laptop, keep your shoes on, and put all small objects inside your carry on vs in a bin. They also used metal detectors vs body scanners. Needless to say that the line moved really fast, we spent less than 5 minutes. Not sure if this is done in other airports, or IAD specific experiment.

Same thing happened to me last Sunday night (#749). Did they have a dog and handler clerk when you went through the line?

Apparently, it's being done at many airports when lines get long, dogs or no dogs.

It's too much to hope that a sane mind realized that if the dogs have cleared a pax for explosives, that's 90% of what's necessary.

Someone might still get through with a ceramic knife concealed in their shoe or a Buzz Lightyear grip toy or a Harry Potter magic wand, for example: but they are not going to take the plane down with that knife or toy and the pax will not sit idly by.

It's a very safe move on TSA's part and speeds things up if done properly (TSA can mess up anything).

Of course, putting 2800 BDOs to work would actually improve things, too. The airlines (pax) aren't going to spend millions every year to supplement TSA's work force.

bag-staring contest?

OTOH, LAS at noon yesterday: Pre-check backed up to the concourse with pax wondering what the "pre-check" on their BP's meant--25 mins. to clear.

Two belt X-ray clerks staring at each bag for at least 15 secs.; one for 1 min. 18 secs by my watch (yeah, the pax after me, while I waited for my bags to clear the chute).

Heaven forbid I reach in and grab my cleared bags  .

BTW, got to the Centurion club and TSA has disabled the lockers. "They said it was too dangerous."
