Maybe they have PreCheck because they were randomly selected by a computer from a list of passengers that day. Maybe they have PreCheck because they were randomly selected from another line by a dog. Maybe they have PreCheck because they were randomly pulled into the PreCheck line by a TSA employee.

I 'de-metal' prior to entering the security screening area. Watch, cell phone, keys, change go in a mesh bag. Wallet is buried in my carry-on, but I remove my DL. But I love Pre-check and am so disappointed when I go somewhere that doesn't have it. (Like Heathrow)

I still prefer using fast track at Heathrow T5, I'm generally through within 3 minutes. TSA pre check can still mean it'll take 10 or 15 minutes.
