CBP changes Austin immigration/customs processing
It seems like Austin has changed how it processes international arrivals so that you claim checked bags before being processed at the same time for both the passport control and customs control function:
http://www.futuretravelexperience.co...ger-screening/ Anyone here been through this recently? Is it an improvement for all passengers compared to the more common process (whereby general passport control functions take place before getting to the baggage claim)? Or is this actually just One-Stop for just carry-on-only passengers of the sort in play at ORD and IAH? |
Looking at the picture and reading the article, it appears you claim your checked bags first then proceed to formalities.
The one stop booths we have at ORD are for travellers that have no checked luggage. |
What happen to arriving passengers that have GE at boet ORD and AUS?

For GE they ask if you have checked bags, if not you turn left instead of right and exit, no more checks. The one-stop at IAH and ORD is only for people with carry-on bags. The article somewhat confusingly notes at the top AUS will be similar to those but then states it will include checked bags due to how fast they make it to the claim at the airport. Seems like a one-of-kind stateside right now. |
Conveniently, this comes just in time for SXSW...
