Large bins don't do nearly as much to slow down a line as naked machines do. Further, it is often easier to put one's smaller metal items (phone, keys, coins, etc.) in a jacket pocket and send that through the machine. That actually speeds the process.

The bins in Europe are huge and don't slow things down one bit. Of course, they don't have Pornoscopes, either. The Europeans also have automatic conveyor systems to shoot the empties back out to the front, in union-conscious Europe, no less.

TSA doesn't analyze WBI false alarms

The above report is also informative in that it advises us that:

Did you notice this gem?

TSA concurred with GAO's remedial recommendations.
Not that it makes any difference. The TSA will keep flubbing things up without any repercussions -- at all.

TSA always "concurs" with the GAO's recommendation and then proceeds to ignore them.

I've flown out of IAD 4 times in the past couple months.

One of those times they had the iPad randomizer (kind of amusing) that kicked me to the right and I got precheck.

The next two times there were so few people they had no premium lanes open, only regular, and were sending everyone through precheck. It's not only pre-9/11 levels of hassle, but goes back several years before that, because IIRC, laptops out was pre-9/11.

The most recent time it was pretty busy and they had premium and regular. Everybody in regular got precheck. Everybody in premium got the full laptops and toothpaste out and do a jumping jack. The ID check in premium was faster (more checkers) but the scanning was slower, and the queuing was done incorrectly. You had to guess a line and if the people in front of you were easy, the line went fast, if they weren't, it was *sloooow*. I got a slow line, which I guess saved me spending a club pass... I think the regular line was faster. Correct queuing would be like Fry's and have a single post-ID line and you go to the next available scanner (or, since there's some prep involved, next open on deck circle). That gives nearly everyone something close to the average wait time, and doesn't hang everybody up behind a new screener, a bad machine, or especially difficult passenger.
