Boycott advertisers?
I am just wondering if anyone beside me boycotts any company that advertises at a checkpoint? Zappos used to, but I don't see them anymore. SpringHill Suites by Marriott advertises at DFW, and they are now on my boycott list.
|
What if the ad was for a competing mode of transport? Amtrak has run ads in the plastic tubs with messages to the effect of, "If you were riding with us, you wouldn't be taking off your shoes."
Also, how deep does the principle of your action go? Would you also boycott any airlines or hotels that have GSA contract rates that DHS/TSA officials might use? What about other common vendors? |
I'm mainly talking about solely the checkpoint. Zappos used to advertise inside the bins at LAS. Marriot has signs all over the E security checkpoint at DFW. I know you can go many layers deep in a boycott, but I'm talking about the first layer here. (Direct advertising)

Zappos still does at LAX, I'll never buy from them until they stop.
|
Hopefully their contract is up soon. I was pleased to see them gone from LAS. Disgusted that Marriort is at DFW though.
|
I am not staying at Marriott for other reasons and the President, Arne Sorenson and several others know exactly why. As such, send him a short direct but polite email.

Boycotting Zappos
When Zappos first starting advertising I decided to boycott them. I sent them an email as to why I was boycotting them (ads at the checkpoint). Here is their reply (other than spam email - I have not heard from them since):

Since the airports that have the sponsored security bins don’t have to put the money/time/energy into those efforts anymore, TSA can spend the money hiring/training more agents. |

What a pile of horse manure. The TSA is overfunded already, and who needs more of these loafers being hired, anyway?
Sorry, couldn't resist. |
[QUOTE=InkUnderNails;22055465]They can buy loafers at Zappos.
New Zappos' campaign: "TSA: Loafers wearing loafers from Zappos!" |
