Manchester(MHT): Lead TSO Miguel Quinones Arrested; Had Child-Porn in Airport Locker

Some news from Doug Ireland at the Eagle-Tribune newspaper, which serves the North of Boston area of the Merrimack Valley in Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, regarding a Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO) at the Manchester, (MHT) New Hampshire airport:

Eagle-Tribune newspaper:
TSA: Child porn suspect was top officer

June 14, 2013

A short quote:
LONDONDERRY — A former top officer with the Transportation Security Administration was arrested on child pornography charges after items were seized from his locker at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

Miguel Quinones, 38, of 67 Whittemore Ave. in Manchester faces 10 felony counts after he turned himself over to police on an arrest warrant Wednesday, according to Londonderry police Lt. Timothy Jones.

A video and more than 1,000 images of child pornography were found on Quinones’ personal laptop computer and three thumb drives stored in his airport locker, Jones said.
and
[TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis] said TSA suspended Quinones without pay in January after being told he was under investigation. He was terminated Wednesday, she said.

“TSA will continue to hold our employees to the highest ethical standards,” Davis said in a statement, “and we will move swiftly and decisively to end the federal careers of any employee who engages in illegal activity.”

Found by whom? What an incredibly dumb place to keep them, but then intelligence isn't a prerequisite to working for the TSA.

Of course a pedophile would be draw to a job where you can fondle little kids and see naked images of them.
The TSA is pretty much a pedophiles wet dream.

When is the TSA gonna finally realize that their current system of vetting prospective employees just doesn't work? (yeah, I know, it's a trick question )

They. Don't. Care.

“TSA will continue to hold our employees to the highest ethical standards,” Davis said in a statement, “and we will move swiftly and decisively to end the federal careers of any employee who engages in illegal activity.”

Handles it well enough don't ya think?

I will believe that line once their people has POST certification. But I'm sure that 50% of their workforce cannot even meet POST standards

That occurred to me too, but without more details it's hard to understand the timeline.
Suspended in January, not charged until June - what happened in the interim?

Not that I really care.

Do the scanners have USB ports? If so, I wonder if there were other images on those thumb drives other than those he downloaded from his personal PC.

Incredible that it takes them HALF A YEAR to decide to discharge a pedophile caught red-handed. And I presume he was getting full pay and benefits all the while. Disgusting.

I think MHT is among the most out-of-control, least disciplined, potentially brutal stations in the TSA system. I had a really unpleasant run-in there one morning a couple of years ago and have tried to avoid the place ever since:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/check...arassment.html

Today's hero was not involved in my incident but who knows what else is tolerated at MHT behind closed doors.
